GDT: braves @ dbacks

Seriously, though, I’m still ****ing anxious and I have to go to work in 5 hours.

I was watching it on a stream tonight, and I get updates on my phone. The stream is a little behind, and when I heard my phone go off I knew the game had ended on the first pitch to the last batter. And when he hit that deep into LF...whew.

Haha. With what happened to the Falcons tonight I was waiting for us to "Atlanta" the game away.Team showed a lot of grit hanging on to win.

He won't get many votes, but if we win the division, I hope some writers toss a couple towards Markakis. He has slumped badly over the past month, but there's no way we'd be where we are if not for his unexpectedly good season. I don't know what the off-season will bring and I'm not sure he should be a part of the plan in 2019 and beyond, but he has stepped up this year in a big way.

Loved reading through the thread and seeing such optimism from everyone. Great win!

we have a great bunch of veteran posters who bring a lot of laidership and perspective to the boards...they are there to hold the hands of the nervous nellies and negative nancies... they know is a long season with lots of ups and downs and they know the team is 14 games above .500 and playing meaningful games in September...its been a great season...the team has exceeded expectations

I don't get too caught up the game-to-game histrionics. I'm just glad I have low blood pressure so that the bullpen doesn't throw me into conniptions. Not to rag on those guys. They've performed well in stretches, but it's a middling pen and we're seeing the downside of the cycle now. But this team has done far better than I envisioned. They have surpassed my expectations, which had them winning between 70 and 75 games.

In some sense, yes, but it's not a bullpen that really takes the bat out of the opposition's hands. I'm not a big believer in the "luck" explanation to performance peaks and valleys, so they have been making pitches. I know a lot of folks don't put much stock in WHIP anymore, but I think it's still relevant when talking about bullpen performance because mistakes are amplified. We're 19th in that category in the major leagues and 26th in the Defensive Independent ERA ratio category. We're right in the middle on K/9 and in the lower third on K/BB. Losing Vizcaino has hurt (although it's been a plus for those with high blood pressure) because it's really made a jumble of who has what role. Freeman's struggles have also hurt.
