GDT: Braves @ Fish Game 162

They scare me a little bit. The Braves can't hit that junk baller Suarez to save their life. So if he goes game 1, then you turn around to face, Wheeler, and Nola in games 2 and 3,....ouch

Gotta hope Phillies and Cardinals goes 3 games and they have to burn their top 3.

Is it that big of an advantage even if it goes 3?
Game 1: our 1, their 4
Game2: our 2, their 1
Game 3: our 3, their 2
Game 4: our 4, their 3
Game 5: our 1, their 4

So in theory, they got the advantage in 3 games

You're not wrong. But they'd also have to use their number 4 pitcher twice and can only use their 1 and 2 two times. I would assume Game 5 they'd bring back their number 1 starter on 3 days rest.

Now that we got the bye, I wish the series started Monday

We saw what Olson did after getting a day off. I don’t like having that much time off between games but the rest will everybody especially Strider. If we are going to repeat we need him healthy.

So the smoke around Degrom wanting to play here. Let’s pretend it is close to being true and the only way AA could afford him was trading O-4zuna and roSorrio. What guy(s) would you be ok with attaching to that trade to make it happen and then be able to afford Jake??

So you're talking 40+ million for Jake and prospects to get rid those guys. I wouldn't do it.

The more likely scenario to get deGrom here involves at least one of those two in LF and Grissom as your starting SS.

I really wonder what we are going to do with Grissom next year. I doubt he is our SS.. and Twit won't play him if 2nd is occupied.. so is he just going to ride the bench..AAA... interesting watch. I don't see him as our LF either.

Assuming Dansby comes back or another equivalent player is signed, I would assume Grissom would at least start at AAA. He could also be trade bait, maybe part of a deal to bring in a LF.

If Vaughn had continue to hit at the same level as he did when he first came up, that would be a tough sell. But he was pretty well lost the last few weeks at the plate. He could use additional work, both offensively and possibly getting work at other positions to prepare for the possibility of a super utility role.

He should have a lot of value in the offseason. I’d look to use him to acquire a real LF.

In the bits and pieces I watched, he was pretty rough around second base, which is understandable seeing he had played so little at the position prior to taking over there when Arcia went down. Second time around in the league can be a challenge because the opposition has some book on guys and baseball has always been a game of adjustments. Interesting question as to what they do with him going into 2023. My guess is he'll see time around the diamond in spring training and they'll go from there.

I agree with Dirk that signing DeGrom means Swanson is likely gone and Fried won't be extended unless DeGrom really goes below his expected market price. Ozuna, Rosario, and Pina are all sunken costs right now. That's about $30 million. There may be some demand for each of them, but the Braves would likely be sending money along with them in addition to a mid-level prospect to move them.

Much rather face the Cards than Phillies but gotta beat good pitching to win it all. But like others, just hoping Stl/Phi goes 3 and they use up everyone.

Mets not using DeGrom until Game 3 so they have him for Game 1 of the DS, i'll believe that when i see it. But might depend what happens Game 1. Can certainly understand wanting to have one of Max/Jake go twice if it goes 5. But gotta get there first.

Mets fans now pivoting to the underdog schtick after the “we’re the greatest team ever” schtick didn’t work out so well. Hilarious.

What does it matter which WC game DeGrom pitches? The Mets can still guarantee he pitches 1 of 3 WC games, and maybe they get to use him in 2 NLDS games. Seems like a perfectly logical decision to me.

If they lose game 1, you almost have to go with him in game 2. He is your horse, even though Bassitt may have performed better overall this season.

Strange thought that this could technically (I still don't think likely) be his last start as a Met
