Freddie's "problem" is that he's the most boring sort of great player: a really good but (usually) not extraordinary hitter whose entire value is tied up in his bat. He's not going to do anything super cool in the field or on the base paths to draw attention, and at the plate he's a guy who does everything really well without being a standout at any one thing -- good contact hitter but not Ichiro, good power but not "oh dear God" light tower power, good plate discipline but not Cyborg Barry good.
You can put up a lot of .300/.400/.520 seasons as a solid first baseman without ever really attracting much attention.
