GDT: Braves @ Guardians 07/05

Chip must have had a momentary lapse in memory thinking about all the BS ways they've beaten us and other teams over the years.

I am once again saying that trading that kind of package for a Murphy-level impact player is always a good idea. An even better idea if you think you can unlock even more, which atlanta has done.

I know it’s hard to believe because the Braves have DOMINATED Miami this year, but the Marlins now have the 2nd best record in the NL and 5th best overall.

The Fish are 8 games over their Pythagorean W-L, easily the highest in baseball. This is driven by an entirely unsustainable record in one run games of 21-5.

They're going to regress hard at some point.

Yup. And if not this year, it may be a tough 2024 barring huge moves to improve their current team.

That said, good for the Marlins. Their fans are having the time of their lives.

They win like every close game, it's kind of annoying. They play Philly this weekend.

Philly has been terrific, this should be a good matchup. I think the Marlins finish the season in a better place than Philly, but the Phillies are a much better team.

Philly's only 2 games back in the L column of Miami. Dont think it's too crazy to think Philly finishes with a better record.

It's not crazy at all. For whatever reason, I don't see the Marlins slowing down. I think both make the playoffs, regardless.

Maybe, maybe not. Much like the Padres, at some point you are what your record says you are. And the Marlins will likely be buyers before the deadline too, strengthening some of their weak spots.

When you have strong pitching like the Marlins do, you can mask a lot of the weak spots on the rest of your team.

In general, I'm opposed to trading for catchers. I just don't think the value they bring while missing 30 or so games a year is worth the prospect cost. It's why I didn't want us trade for Realmuto when the Phillies did.

But in this case, we basically just traded 2 extra catchers (plus a little extra) for 1 catcher. And I'm totally fine making that sort of trade.

I won't say they are not going to make the playoffs, but I think Miami is due for the luck fueled 1 run regression. When that happens and they go 3-7 in a 10 game stretch, it will be interesting to see how they respond. Philly has the more experienced team, just not sure how good they really are with Hoskin missing..

I love winning, but this is kinda boring. My health appreciates no drama, but I sorta miss hanging on every pitch in braves and east competition.
