GDT: Braves @ Phillies (June 29th) Dawn of the Planet of the Harangutan

This post is in response to the grumps about our current record... Medlen, Beach and Floyd. Those are three pretty damn solid starters right there. We have had three good starters go out due to injury for the entire season before the all star break. Any other team in MLB in a similar situation wouldn't even be completing right now.

I have to give a shout out to Dalyn who constantly preached the importance of starting pitching depth. Well that's come to fruition for the Braves this season. Really, we should be out of it already.

Tell that to those bitches at MLB.com. Fvcking Nat jock sniffers.

Yep. Naysayers are always preaching that the reason that the Nats haven't run away with this division is because of their injuries. They act like we haven't had any tough injuries ourselves.

Pitching has been good and a nice surprise. But we have every right to complain about our offense. The injuries happened and are way back in the past. Our pitching has rebounded and been a strength. Bottom line is the is a pathetic offense. One of the worst I've seen in years and if changes/improvements aren't made we'll lose first round of the playoffs if were lucky enough to get there.

Not to mention BJ and Uggla have played like their injured and their production have been from players that would normally be in AAA.

Try ESPN, Buster Olney has a story about first half surprises. Guess who the tag line is about. "One shocking development? Gio Gonzalez and the Nats should own the NL East, but they havent". I think they are still in denial that last season happened.

I don't think they're the Worldwide Leader. I think they're the Worldwide Follower. They put up a finger, measure public opinion, and go with that. Not the vanguard; they're sheeple.

I think we have as much unfulfilled capacity as the Nats. We got our bullpen straightened out, La Stella solved one problem, maybe BJ solves another. Minor starts dealing we could be in business. Still a low-90s team, even with underachieving and heap wampum injuries.

Phillies went 3 for 31 with runners in scoring position this series. The RISP hitting has a way of evening out both for us and the teams we play.

Even with the pitching injuries and offensive inconsistency, the bullpen blew 4-5 games they would have sealed the last few years. Reverse those and we're 49-33 and right where we ought to be.

I think Frank's done a nice job of retooling on the fly. The only thing he hasn't done well is spend free agent money. Maybe they should just keep him on a shoestring.

We're way overdue, then.

Watching the Phillies is like watching your parents decline. It's sad, and they don't even realize they can't get around on the fastball anymore. Somebody ought to gently but firmly take the keys away from Reuben before he kills somebody.

The pundits are still giving the Nats too much credit for 2012, instead of that being the expected norm, perhaps that was the aberration. The Braves have been consistently over a longer period of time, but yet, it surprises everyone that the Braves continue to stay on top.

All kinds of awesomeness in this thread, especially the page I am on now. Totally owns those national (no pun intended) pundits (no pun intended again) who sucks the Nats sweaty nutsacks on a continuing basis and give excuses on why they aren't 15 games ahead but in 2nd place.

Can't fool me. Those puns are entirely intended. Stand up and take responsibility!

Nats are good, not that crazy to say they could win the East.

But to say they are surprised they havent run away with the East is a bit ridiculous. Wash has been banged up but as said, try having three key SP's out for the year.

Not like we've been fully healthy either.

I just like reading it all. This has been said for years and it's just not happening. Could it? Sure. but it's not. It's gonna be hilarious when the Braves and Marlins are the class of the NL East and the Nats have 1, maybe 2 NL East titles to show for their huge talent.
