Did you see the video of him taking BP? The ball just explodes off his bat. If he had the ability to play quality defense at literally any position, I think he'd be one of the fastest rising prospects in baseball.

Why start O’Brien at 1B and Ball at DH? I understand defence isn’t the latter’s strong-suit, but wouldn’t it be better to have a look at him (a truly viable prospect) there, versus watching O’Brien (a dead-end) do anything?

It's been reported he stayed upper 90s, occasionally touching triple digits.

Its early in spring. Its possible that he was only throwing at 85-90% of max effort in order to slowly build up to full strength.
