If he does he'll be the 1st guy I've seen win the Cy Young that's walking 5 per 9 innings. Dude's ERA is a total mirage.

The Braves clinched the bye tonight, for what it's worth. Next step, #1 seed.

I've got Acuna hangover right now. Ultimately as a fan, its all about the team, hence our 2021 WS being led by a make-shift outfield and there was nothing sweeter then seeing the crown on us led by the likes of Soler, Rosario, Joc, and of course the other usual's.
But every once in a while, there is an individual season so sweet, that on its own, yields a real pride and satisfaction to have it on our team. For me that is Acuna this year. Its just a historic season and its been unreal to watch.
All of baseball knows how good he is coming into this year, but for all us Braves fans, I think there was an awareness that he's beyond great, he is generational. Been a weird three years between Covid season, then 2021 (where he if healthy was tracking for ~50 bombs), then 2022 where he wasn't right. Next thing you know, that's three years of being robbed of seeing him get to display his greatness.
Makes it that much sweeter to finally get to see a clean season of Acuna in his prime doing things NO ONE, has ever done before. There are guys that have HOF written all over them and then there are players, where with a little luck, can go down as a true all-timer. Acuna fits that mold. He's more than a superstar. He is one of the best players ever at his peak. We just need to enjoy every second of it.
Pretty absurd to think about for Acuna. 6 MLB seasons, 6 division titles, one WS title already, on verge of 40-40 (and 40-70 club) and soon to be an MVP on the resume. Counting stats wise, there have been better starts to a career (particularly given his two injury seasons), but overall individual + team success, its up there. All he knows is hitting bombs, stealing bases, celebrating on the bases and popping division champ champagne.

Spencer Strider leads baseball in numerous pitching stats, but three innings likely cost him the 2023 CY Young, and they were all in starts he otherwise dominated. The homer to Harper last night, the homer to Mookie in LA, and the two homers in Boston.
Seems like a question you should be asking Chip.

Last night didn't cost Strider a CY Young. Neither did LA or Boston. The Cardinals start cost him the Cy Young. His ERA ballooned from 3.56 to 3.83. Take away the Cardinals start and his ERA is 3.47 right now with 1 or 2 more starts remaining against weak competition.

I guess you could argue the six-run start against the Pirates and the eight-run one against the Mets could also be the issues. It's funny because the he's been dominate probably 80% of the time, but those few other starts... sheesh.

The game last night exemplifies Strider's season in a way. He was flat-out dominant. Didn't even walk anyone. He should have 0 ER allowed. But he doesn't. Because he made a bad pitch to the wrong guy at the wrong time, and he hit a wall scraper.
He's been the best pitcher in the league. But he's not going to win the Cy Young, because on occasion, he just loses it. And when he does, he's unable to limit the damage.
