GDT: Cards @ Braves 7/7

Looks like Twit is trying to get Noose involved too much. I would rather have a wet blanket sitting out at 2nd than that scrub. Arcia needs to play while we search for a real back up for Ozzie.

Enscheff, strider seemed to have some nice success with his change up and slider last night. Do those 2 pitches just play up bc the fastball is so good or has progress been made on them?

Braves have the top 2 NL rookies according to fWAR

Strider - 2.3

Harris - 1.6

Braves should get a pick if Harris won

Such a silly barometer thats completely subjective. Trash.

Not really. The whole point is to get teams to have their top prospects on the opening day roster instead of trying to game the system. Not only is it for a ROY win. It also goes into effect if they have a top 3 Cy Young or MVP finish in their pre-arb years. And it seems to have worked. 10 top 100 prospects made the opening day roster which was the 2nd most ever. And 2 more (now playing in the majors) likely would have if it wasn't for injuries.

I'm just saying I think it should be all prospects.

I like Arcias defense but with our window wide open right now we can’t have him as even a backup option at SS in the offseason. If you took Dansbys numbers out and put in Arcias numbers for the year we’d be buried in 3rd place in the division and not sniffing the playoffs. He’s fine as a bench bat and that’s it. Either Dansby or one of the other big SS will no doubt need to be signed this offseason, especially with the OF options looking so bad in FA.

Strider's FA is really good (75 grade velo, above average rise), and he seems to locate it well, so any off speed pitches will play up because of it.

Having said that, he's also improved the SL. He's added depth to it, and it now has above average downward movement.

The CH also has average-ish movement, and is 10 mph slower than the FA. It's certainly good enough to play off the monster FA.

Strider appears to be that guy everyone hopes a pitcher is when they see him throw 100 mph in the BP and says "maybe we should try him in the rotation". His velocity is trending down as his workload builds, so I expect him to start getting some extra rest in the not too distant future. He and Soroka will be the main beneficiaries of the immanent 6 man rotation. Can he have success at 98 rather than 100? Probably, but if he drops down to 96 like he did a few starts ago we might see why he can't stick in the rotation...or maybe the off speed stuff improves enough to make up for losing some FA velocity.

Maybe, but it's a nice place to start. I can't imagine he'll keep touching 100 in starts because nobody's ever done it before, so maybe he's 98. The slider has depth and I saw at least two showstopper changes in last night's game. Yowza.

If Strider isn't an 80 fastball, who is?

When they talk about "easy gas" in the future, they'll be using Spencer Strider as the exemplar.

Hicks yesterday threw a few at 103-104

Someone on this board a few days ago mentioned the Braves knew to keep the prospects who were teachable. Well last night, not sure if anyone caught this, they showed a clip of when Strider was taken out of the game, and Kranitz was giving him tips, and Strider was taking it all in and acknowledging like he truly wanted to learn. For someone that dominant, it surely is encouraging to see he's still grounded and wants to keep getting better.

The runner on second rule can't end soon enough. 9-18 in extra inning games since the start of the rule. The Braves are as inept at keeping that runner on 2nd from scoring as they are scoring that runner themselves. It's laughable at this point. Any game going into the 10th is an instant loss. whether it's home or road.

Interestingly, the Dodges are almost as inept in extra innings as the Braves are. They went 5-1 in 2020, but are even worse than us since, going 7-18 to our 7-15.
