GDT: Cards Vs Braves 4/9

Aybar is actually a pretty decent defensive SS, so this just goes to show just how great Simmons is defensively that we're kind of mocking him for his poor defense. That's a play Simmons probably would have made, but it was far from an easy play.

The Cards are just so good at working the count. It's sickening.

Also, our pitchers are ass tonight, so that doesn't help.

Aybar used to be pretty decent, but he's been in decline the last few years with below average defense at short. Simmons actually saves a ton of runs at short, Aybar has had a minus DRS last three years including a -7 DRS season. So it's more than simply saying Simmons would've made that play. Plus that isn't saying much since Simmons is easily the best defensive shortstop in MLB.

I looked at bref and they had Aybar at +Dwar. But I don't know what to look at. But this year Aybar may be -100 dWar. Heavens, literally while I typed this defense of him he made a horrible error.

He is plus for his career, as he was once much better at short than he is now. Right now he looks more like a second baseman playing short to me, and slightly below average at short defensively at best.
