GDT gnats 4/3/18

Am I the only one who thinks the Nats are playing with fire by playing Eaton right now? Dude clearly is not 100% yet with that ACL reconstruction surgery.

I hate when Chip says a pitcher is being "taken down" when he's removed from a game. There's no violence, Chip. There's no SWAT officer with a sniper rifle in the upper deck waiting for Snitker's signal.

Like us all, Chip is a slave to the idiom he lives. And when Chip is removed from somewhere or something, you best believe SWAT’s been called.

It's a good start for him but I doubt he's anything more than a bench bat/4th OF long term.

Neck would need an incredible season (for him) to be worth his contract at this point. But in the end it's not that big of a deal. Just wasted money in losing seasons which ironically what Melvin would have been.

3.5 fWAR before this season started - might not get all the way there, but it's not nearly as bad a deal as a lot of people wanted it to be.

I was just wondering when they came back from break and showed the new Gnats pitcher, I was thinking that I though Jayson Werth left them.

Don’t understand why “I don’t like this signing” always has to metamorphose into “I dont want this player to succeed”. I thought Markakis was an entirely unnecessary signing in the midst of the rebuild—the kind of low-upside competent professional who’d’ve been a great third OF on a contending team, but who made little sense for the Braves at the time. Nevertheless, I’d’ve been thrilled to see him outproduce Trout over the duration of his deal.

Of all the mistakes made by the old FO, getting ~4 fWAR from Markakis for 4/44 without giving up a draft pick is pretty low on the list.

No, I would want them to rest him more. They'll make the playoffs without him anyway

Great defensive plays by Flaherty and Albies. Unfortunately I missed all the fireworks because of taxes.

This may be the inner posi in me coming out, but I'm actually getting more confident that Tucker might be a thing. Maybe not fantastic, as his defense will always hold him back to some degree. But his bat has looked really good so far. And not in that "I know this is about to all fall apart" (aka Flaherty) kinda way.

It doesn't - so long as you weren't someone throwing the signing up as a "dumb move" every chance you got.

I can't answer whether you've done that, but a whole lot of others have - and the precious numbers don't look like they're going to bear that out in the end.

even as a fourth outfielder he will contribute plenty
