GDT : July 11th, 2013 - Reds at Braves

We're winning thanks to Freeman, but stranding too many runners again. This could cost us later, esp. with Reed replacing Heyward. I don't have confidence in Reed vs righties, though I like him vs lefties. I also wanted to see Joey T get his shot with Heyward being forced to leave due to injury.

2010 - .308/.337/.481 (.818) in 341 AB
2012 - .281/.326/.451 (.777) in 488 AB

Sorry but there's absolutely nothing wrong with those batting lines.

Yeah I don't get it. The idea that he's going to become a bad hitter is just wrong. We aren't talking about his defense, just his hitting.

You slide because it's easier to stop your momentum that way.

Nobody was within 8 feet of the base. You slow down and round the base slightly and you are fine. Just a dumb play. Like all of his head first slides. Completely unnecessary.

Especially when he's batting 8th and has been most of the season. There's a lot of teams that would kill to have a guy batting 8th with that kind of production. Like I said if his defense was even average we wouldn't have anyone say anything bad about him.

Not walking, striking out a lot, not a lot of power, and unusually high BABIP those years. If you are fully prepared to believe that Chris Johnson of all people is going to be a high BABIP for the rest of his career then go ahead. I don't buy it.

To be fair, most teams getting that kind of production from folks don't hit them 8th :)

Nobody thinks he is a horrible hitter. He isn't. But with that defense he's an average at best player. Sure for what he's making that's fine. But we can and should do better overall.

There's no proof that head first slides hurt you more. Ask Jose Reyes what he thinks about feet first slides. Players slide into empty bases all the time. You just don't like Heyward and when a player gets on your **** list you just find every thing they do wrong.
