The addition of a plus Slider and elite control has completely changed the evaluation of Fried as a SP. The addition of a pitch makes sense, but I don’t think anyone saw this type of control coming.
At the age of 25 he may be one of those exceptions where an older guy figures out the control.
I don’t know much about determining the sustainability of an improved BB rate, so it’s something to dig into a bit to see if it’s really real.
The pitch that impress me the most was the 3-2 breaking ball that was really nasty. The batter froze and it comfortably hit the upper echelon of the zone. Man to have that control on one of the most filthiest pitches in the majors is good.
Pitchers don't throw secondary pitches on 3-2 unless they knew they had control. He had it. What is worse or good for us, he knows he can get better.
