GDT: PHILS vs BRAVES [Game 3]

Joe Simpson doesn’t understand that sacrifice bunting is a negative play with anyone except the pitcher at the plate (more often than not).

I mean, you’d think he’d be able to figure out why a team heavily into sabermetrics like the Phillies would sac bunt with the pitcher.

Let’s not assume there is a critical shortage of starting pitchers who can go deep in games just because the flavor of the week in “analytics” is extending bullpens.

Some analysts thing they see an inefficiency where they can use deep bullpens to counteract pitcher fatigue and hitters developing familiarity with the starter during games.

This may well be a great strategy for certain teams or in short time frames.

But the underlying ability of the starting pitchers probably hasn’t suddenly dipped greatly just because it’s a hot topic for people that read blogs.

Right. Never mind the fact that the decision was made based on reams of data collected on all those pitchers you think were capable of going deep into games. The data showed conclusively they aren’t capable, despite what you think.

I don't have a problem with Swanson's K. It was a good AB against a pitcher with great stuff. Swanson wasn't swinging at junk, he made the pitcher work, he just didn't connect.

Guy behind me:

“He’s a good player! He just sits on the bench though”

Braves should hire him for the broadcast booth

From what I remember, McCarthy generally has good control but it seems like he might just have nothing today. He's been all over the place.

Career 7.8 Bb/9

Those are Morris' big league numbers, but his minor league numbers are just under 5 BB/9. I don't know if this is a good move or a bad move, but I swear some folks don't look at a guy's stats before posting. We'll see if there is any interest in Morris from someone else.

Is anyone else’s broadcast audio seem to be very slightly ahead of their video?

I’m watching via cable, not the Internet.
