GDT-- Thurs 3/15, Tigers

I have to admit the performance of Albies thus far plus the non-zero possibility of Acuna being an All Star caliber rookie really does leave some room for dreaming.

Unfortunately the rotation still has as much chance of cratering as it does being a pleasant surprise.

You can dream on the whole team though.

Braves will fold like a wet paper sack.

Acuna opens in the OF on opening day. You heard it here first.

"He played his way onto the team. Here at the Braves we don't manipulate service time clocks. We play them when they are ready."

Don't send him down.

Fix all the financial problems now by putting #34 on his back and start selling the jerseys tomorrow.

(Noticed you can get balls with his autograph on the Shop section of the website this morning.)

I dunno...call him up against the Cubs...let the excitement build for his first home game against the Phillies on the 16th...it will be like a second opening day

The excitement is going to be there no matter what. It will almost certainly have more excitement if they wait until they're home to have him debut.

It's all about the pitching. I think 12-15 WAR is possible out of the starting rotation.

Hitting is going to be good once Acuna is up. Lots of talent all over the diamond and it's why I believe 86 wins is possible.

Easily attainable since Newk will be 5+ wins and Fried will emerge as another 4+ win TOR guy.

So....”if”

MacCarthy: Stays healthy

Folty: Improves (as appears this spring)

Newcomb: Improves (as appears this spring)

Julio: (follows the bad year with a good year as usual).

Gohara: Gets healthy and at least matches last year’s out put.

That’s a good staff

Add Acuna and Albies doing their thing. Freddie healthy and Swanson (hopefully) playing better than last year.

We could flirt with a wild card if things went right. Big “if”, but not so far fetched as I would have considered it a month ago.

If he's as good as you think he's going to be, a few signed baseballs and opening day jersey sales aren't going to match his 27 year salary, which has a non-zero chance of being 30-40 million dollars.

Come on guys - this is simple and the team knows it. Hold him out two weeks.

The starting staff could be very good. And we have quite a nice spare tire named Soroka in AAA.

The main takeaway is you can at least do this now. The 2015, 2016, and 2017 teams couldn't.

But to temper expectations, there are 25 other teams that could do this exact same exercise in optimism. Hope springs eternal... especially in spring.

Under a best case scenario like this, the Braves also have the ammunition to add a long term piece at the deadline.

It sure would be fun to talk about the Braves as buyers the deadline.

There was only a slight amount of sarcasm in that post.

Not sure what all of the young guys will do this year (1st half) so that AA can line them up as keep/trade candidates, but I feel the same as in the off season.

Atlanta is not a likely landing spot for the big time FAs (Manchado, Harper, Kershaw types) so the better way to use their $50+M is to get the players you want that are under contract prior to FA. Some unknown team will become a seller.
