GDT -- Wed, 5/23 vs Phiiiies

you think this is predictive of anything?

Do I predict that we will be shut out again the next game or 2? No, not really. I do find it concerning bc we rely on so many young players (4 of our 8 position players are in year 1 or 2)... I think we will start seeing more and more of these funks. I think we played above our heads offensively early in the season and regression has begun.

Sure. The offense will regress some. I think most of us are agreed on that.

I liked what I saw from Gohara tonight. At some point he and Soroka are both going to be in the rotation this season. I think they are our two best starting pitchers. Its ok that their innings are being held down for various reasons right now. We are going to need innings from them later this season.

Tell the guys that they don't have to go back to the cesspool of humanity that is Philadelphia until September and that should put a spring in their step heading to Boston.

In retrospect we've gone 7-5 against the Phillies so far and won 3 out of the 4 series. They're a good team so that's a solid start. We've played a really tough schedule so far and the next few weeks should be tough as well but if we can survive that time June should be a little easier.

Phillies threw three starters at us who all brought tgeir A++++ stuff. We're lucky we scored 3. Those guys won't pitch better in any other start because they can't pitch any better

The game that's probably the most concerning in this stretch is the Chen game, even though it was wiped. They all have good stuff, yes even Velasquez who isn't great.

But given that I think the Braves are seeing three left handers in Boston, win or lose that series that while be the real measuring stick on if we can really sound the alarm bells. If it's a competitive series, even if its a lost series that's fine, but if its a blowaway series where the Braves don't score much/at all, then we can all run around, panic, and think that the Braves were possibly stacking wins early this season.

I wish this was our lineup for a while...

Markakis
Albies
FF
Catcher
Acuna
Ender
Camargo
Swanson

Markakis is sporting over a .400 obp. Albies would break up our 2 best LH hitters, and albies hits much better vs lhp. Acuna's speed could be better utilized hitting 5th more than in front of FF.

Chen got some absolutely absurd calls.

The people who said we had to have Acuna up on opening day... A .746 ops with bad defense.

Very glad we have a smart aFO now

Of course it's also probably true that if he was forced to get in the zone he gets hit more, but still, we're left wondering and possibly worried if the offense can't get going vs left handers.

9-3 vs. left handed starters on the season. Freeman and Markakis both kill lefties along with Albies. People are freaking out over a less than week long offensive drought. Also .287 .351 .483 .834 as a team vs. lefties on the season. Everyone needs to settle down.

Are you suggesting the Braves might benefit from increasing the depth of quality hitters in their starting lineup.

Or do you think they can easily do that internally?

I've said all along I want Jed lowrie.

I'm guessing this comment/question is pertaining to Camargo. If my choices are Bautista, flaherty, and Camargo, then I want Camargo. If we can actually get an upgrade for Camargo, then get him... Bautista wasn't an upgrade

Not a direct comment on you. More a general inquiry.

Swanson is way more concerning than Camargo. I just havent seen anything from him at the plate to suggest he's going to be decent. Really bad pitch recognition and plate discipline. No power. Rey Sanchez looked like he had more of a plan at the plate than Dans.

The offense will not be good without acuna and dansby living up to their talent. Dansby got a double last night but I missed it...was it a fluke?

Acuna is good on defense long term imo

Need those guys to hit when neck normalizes
