get fish 6/16

The Colon at bat was bad, but I thought Newcomb pitched okay that inning. Nothing hit hard and he got squeezed a bit.

great play by Swanson, Newk was getting squeezed but still pitched well overall all things considered.

I think tonights game is pretty indicative of what scouts have said about Newk. Tons of ability with lots of wildness. More walks than strikeouts tonight.

Doesn't matter. Guys that can hold that velo for 100 pitches will never be moved to the BP until injury forces it.

The walks were not indicitive of wildness.

Having to deal with a tight strike zone is part of the game, and he actually missed on that one pitch looking at the k zone, even though it's a pitch I think he should have gotten. He walked 4 guys, that's wildness whether you like it or not. He still pitched a heck of a game, just a couple bad luck bloopers and some wildness did him in. Nice job minimizing the damage though and getting out of it. I really like that Snitker left him in there to let him sink or swim.

Of course it's a part of it. But I'd rather my guy missing by an inch. He wasn't missing his spots tonight. There's a differencr.

He was right around the plate. Missing by an inch is much different than missing by 6.

And it was 6 innings.

That was a typo. The point is that was a typical game of what scouts have said about him. If he can get the walks under control without losing stuff he should do very well.

So what is it then? 4 walks and 3 strikeouts in 5 innings is not good.

It goes back to that old addage of a blooper hit shows up as line drive in the paper.

When he walked people it was in deep counts where the hitter fouled off some good pitches. I don't think his command was tight, but I thought it was fine overall.

I also liked that he stayed out and finished that inning. I didn't like some of the pitches flowers was calling in that inning. Why throw breaking stuff to Colon? Blow the 98 mph stuff by him.

So far he looks like the most legit pitcher the team has brought up during the rebuild.

Meh...75% came in the 6th and Bour was basically an intentional walk. Marlins were lucky with little bloop hits. For sure Newk is like Folty...he can only beat himself. The gun seems to work just fine for Motte. Say what you want, but I'm completely happy with his first two MLB starts. Have to think he will only improve as he gets comfortable.
