BBC reports the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament has said people in Afghanistan are being dragged into the street and shot or killed in their homes for having worked with the international coalition. He said people he worked with are being murdered for having worked with them.

How can anyone defend how this has played out?

It's a matter of perspective. Those people view us as the immoral savages. We really have no right to tell people in Afghanistan how to live. In the real world might makes right. It's no different than the American Revolution. If they lost they would be remembered as criminals, but they won and the winners write the history books.

To put it bluntly, everyones fake outrage over the violence in Afghanistan makes me sick. The Taliban are the dominate political group in the country. Priority should be keeping them from harming us not their own people. Those people peoppe being killed are criminals according to the dominant political force of the country. They could look at us in the same light for abortion. Should a country invade us because they want to protect babies?

well, it's exactly what trump/maga/republicans were bragging about accomplishing and wanting till about 60 hours ago

but yeah, i don't think anyone wanted this but really, how long can we stay there? what good would it do?

that interrupters etc weren't taken care of earlier is insane. same thing happened in iraq though

this isn't like its our first lost war though. we lost this a long time ago, we just decided to keep sending kids to die there and waste money for a decade and a half instead of doing this exact same scenario then cause we didn't want to lose face.

This. Believing we should pull out of Afghanistan is a perfectly reasonable belief but not honoring our obligations to these people is just shameful. Putting them in harms way because of lack of planning and foresight is ridiculous. That's what I want answers for.

Also, there are currently thousands of American citizens in Kabul and the Taliban controls all roads to the airport. To get to the airport they'll have to go through Taliban checkpoints. We're relying on the good will of the Taliban to get our own citizens out of the country. Citizens that were told by our government to stay home until they received a message telling them it was time to go to the airport to evacuate. I cannot fathom how we reached this point.

This is a national tragedy.

When the CCP embolden the Taliban its going to get a lot worse if we don't have those AMerican citizens out of Kabul.

Expect to see hostage videos within the month. I hope I am laughably wrong about that.

The Taliban seems to be putting on a friendly face right now. They know the attention of the world is on them and that there are still thousands of foreign troops literally right next to them. I don't think they want to provoke a response by the west so as long as all eyes are on them, they'll play innocent.

I'm more worried about what will happen 6 months from now. Once all the western powers are gone and the attention of the world has shifted, they'll be able to do whatever they want. That's when things could get bad.

This is assuming the Taliban cares about these optics. They will always have the support of enough of the Muslim world to continue on and if the CCP embolden them then they might take advantage of this period of feckless US leadership.

I really hope not.

Lots of reports yesterday of Afghan special forces being dragged out of their houses by Taliban. If they're playing nice now then it's going to be medieval when they stop

People have a tendency to attach Western morals and ways of thinking on the Muslim world.

That is how we got into the mess we are in currently.

Guys - We handed state of art weaponry only shared by the most advanced nations of the world to a group of savages that think they are doing the morally right thing by taking over the country.

You can't overexaggerate what a disaster this was. This will be the Biden regime legacy forever.

Perhaps we stop installing presdents with itchy trigger fingers and daddy issues.

Then pulling out of their massive foreign policy blunders wouldn't be necessary .
