Mogadishu truck bomb: 500 casualties in Somalia’s worst terrorist attack
The death toll in the bombing that hit the centre of Mogadishu on Saturday continues to rise, with more than 300 people now believed to have been killed and hundreds more seriously injured.
The scale of the loss makes the attack, which involved a truck packed with several hundred kilograms of military-grade and homemade explosives, one of the most lethal terrorist acts anywhere in the world for many years.
On Monday morning, Somalia’s information minister announced that 276 people had died in the attack with at least 300 people injured. Within hours, however, Abdikadir Abdirahman, the director of Amin ambulances, said his service had confirmed that 300 people died in the blast.

However the organisation has a history of launching bomb attacks against civilian targets in Mogadishu, and is known to avoid claiming responsibility for operations which it believes may significantly damage its public image among ordinary Somalis.
The bombing was reported on media outlets linked to al-Shabaab.

One western expert working with the Somali government said the bomb was aimed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it was likely al-Shabaab had not anticipated the destruction it would cause.
“That it exploded next to a fuel tanker was just very, very bad luck,” the expert said.

Al-qaida, Al-shabab, ISIS, aren't just blowing things up. They take over towns and sometimes entire regions. I imagine everyone here is familiar with what happens to the local residents when they do. Random terror attacks are awful and yes there are sources of those that don't include Islamic terror groups. But I am unaware of any other groups that commit sustained reigns of terror equal to these.

I'm blaming the Islamic faith for giving the 'green light' to rape and pillage while systematically destroying basic human rights along the way. You see them as an innocent displaced minority but I see it as a corrosive faith looking to destabilized any type of government other than one dominated by the Islamic fsith.
