Yep, as someone who models herself as apathetic to the idea that Trump is going to get seriously burned on anything he does, this makes me less optimistic that I have the right assessment.
Will say this will all depend on the way oil moves. If it's topped no matter the way this adventure involving Kharg Island goes, and for now I'd still say yeah on US oil at least, then the midterm will be focused on domestic, and my base case is we wind up back in 2019 with the congressional dynamics.
(the risk of a Vietnam like quagmire is very high)

Crime has been falling since 2020's homicide climb, and 2022's property crime climb.
I'd argue a lot more terrorists are being made when you bomb a girls school because you missed a military base.

Yeah, DHS needs a funding cut. You realize DHS in 2025 have a 107 billion dollar budget? That's more money than every military in the world gets except US, China and Russia. DHS's budget would the the 43rd highest country if it was just expendatures. Just ahead of New Zealand and just behind Hungary. Where is the 107 billion going? Well a quarter of a billion went to Noam's Vanity project. We know that. Where's the rest?
Might as well take all the oil in the world with our military. Imagine how much that would increase oil imports!
