I believe the term ****hole country entered our discourse as part of a conversation about LEGAL immigration. "Why can't more of them come from Norway instead of those ****hole countries." Which I believe is a sentiment you have aligned yourself with.

It is good to have an occasional reminder from Dr. Patapoutian and others that is people who immigrate not countries. And that people from all sorts of places come here and make a solid contribution to society. They pay their taxes and get vaccinated.

Yes, when our 'LEGAL' system is nothing more than a lottery or some form of chain migration which no consideration to merit at all.

You know the system you support.

I however, support a system where anyone can come here as long as they can support themselves, actually add value from a skills perspective and do not ask for government services at all for at least 10 years.

But sure, lets continue to give lottery winning tickets to ****hole countries. Thats how scum like Omar get nominated to congress.

Under our current system, the immigrants who come in pay taxes and generally contribute to society in ways that more than cover any benefits they receive. Even the ones from ****hole countries like Dr. Patapoutian.

Yeah sure - They 'pay' taxes when they have no skills and end up making less than the first tiered bracket.

There is a mountain of evidence out there on the positive net contributions of immigrants under the current system. The country benefits quite a bit from it.

I bet my conclusion is more accurate than these experts despite my lack of 'robust' research that is really code word for funding from the donor class so loser academics can actually make money.
 
Bannon/Navarro/Trump were right about China.

We need to 100% decouple from them immediately and cancel all the debt we owe them.

Well when someone makes an idiotic argument like someone from a ****hole country wins a Nobel prize and therefore we should accept more people from that country I think the point needs to be emphasized that statically this is a trrrible policy for America.
 
I'm not arguing for more or fewer immigrants from any particular country (including Norway). But I am opposed to the racialization of American immigration policy (changing the law in an attempt to get more immigrants who look like they might be from Norway). Just to be clear I have nothing against people of Norwegian ancestry. I know some very fine people from Norway.

And Norway itself is a wonderful country, and to be congratulated for its very high vaccination rate which has allowed it to drop covid-related restrictions and for its very low death rate compared to one of its neighbors.

How about we just accept each immigrant regardless of where they come from strictly on merit.

I know...what a radical concept.
