They are gonna get the war they want.

They need a scapegoat for our collapsing currency, record inflation m the seals will clap and point to who they are told

And when the US is an absolute disaster in ten years they'll pretend they were against it and move on to the next lie.

NEW - Russia Today and Sputnik will not be banned in #Switzerland. The Swiss Federal Council says "it is more effective to counter untrue and harmful statements with facts instead of banning them" in a press release.

Curious our options 2012 ?

If memory serves internationally we were spread quite thin.

Containment has been our Russian go to since 1945.
Be that right or wrong

Perhaps we don't knee jerk into ME 2002 ...
Did I read earlier today a fellow poster expressed sorrow for his cheerleading the Iraq misadventure ?
Characterized as the worst foreign policy mistake in our history

Classic

I can only roll my eyes that even at this late date some of you hold up very poorly chosen one as some sort of successful president with well-thought out ideas on anything. But yeah, earth wasn't invaded by aliens during his presidency. Feel free to draw any conclusions you wish from that.

The gaze aversion to actual real world foreign policy success is truly something to behold.

Until you remember you are horny for war and trump didn't give you much of it

I think someone used the term 'cognitive dissonance' before.

Only thing you can say...

Interesting shift by Russia today. They've said they've almost completed the first phase and will be shifting its focus to Donbas.

This could mean a couple things. It could be a complete lie hoping to get Ukraine to move its forces into a less advantageous position. It could be Russia has dialed back its aspirations and now is willing to settle for Donbas and a land bridge to Crimea. Or it could be that Putin wants a victory he can show off back home in time for the May 9th Victory Day celebration and gaining complete control of Donbas would be that (while still fighting for the rest of Ukraine).

Well, what were the options ?

We can start by not saying "the 80's called, they want their foreign policy back" as Mr. Obama proudly said

We could have not allowed the mad dictator to not rig our elections.

Seems Obama missed badly on this one. Ukraine is paying a heavy price

The reparations alone will be very expensive for Russia. I don't see how the funds frozen (from the central bank and other accounts) will be released prior to a settlement on reparations to Ukraine. Which will be considerable.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. Russia still has leverage in that Russia decides when the war ends. Western leaders have one eye on prices back at home and want things to calm down as quickly as possible. I wouldn't be shocked to see some of the sanctions loosened as part of a peace deal, even if the deal didn't include reparations.

We'll see. My impression is the Europeans are less willing to let bygones be bygones than we are. Not saying that's exactly where we are or should be. But we are far from being the hardliners in this situation.

Same place we could have been at the very beginning if both sides were able to put their EGO's aside.
