Speaking alongside Sweden’s prime minister, opposition party leader Ulf Kristersson called it a “big day” as the government announced its decision to apply for NATO membership.

“While I deeply regret the reason we are embarking on this journey today, it is nevertheless a big day. We are finally coming home,” he said.

Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said Sweden’s government formally decided to apply for NATO membership following a debate in parliament.

Kristersson chided Russian leaders for thinking that they could “bully Ukraine.” “They thought they could scare Sweden and Finland and drive a wedge between us and our neighbors and allies,” he said. “They were wrong.”

Kristersson said the decision transcends bipartisan divides, as Sweden prepares for a general election in September.

“The prime minister and I, we disagree on many important things, and we both plan to win the upcoming general election. But on this topic, we stand absolutely united,” he said. “NATO is above party politics. We are here together today because we want fellow Swedes, NATO member states and the world to know that we will lead this process together and do what’s in the best interest of our nation — and that is, to defend the security and freedom of our people, as a democracy, together with other democracies.”

This has been a epic blunder by Putin.

I don't expect his ego would accept anything other than a total victory though. Somehow I think this gets much worse before it gets better.

As I've been saying for months. Someone just needs to put a bullet in his head. I think no one wants to becuase they don't have a remotely clear idea of succession that will result in anything different.

A big part of Russia's problems is that it came to believe its own deza. About all sorts of things. But in the case of this war about military readiness and capability. The system became so corrupt and rotten that no one knows what's what. Reminiscent of the old Soviet Union where the joke went that people pretended to work since the state only pretended to pay them.

The US is spending pennies on the dollar and no US soldiers lives lost to essentially wipe out a geopolitical threat.

No extra costs incurred to send our own troops on the ground and fight. All basically to see the fall of Russia. I’m curious because Putin has been the iron fist that has held all the various groups and states in check. If he leaves, Russia may be split up again like the fall of the USSR.

China is also going to come out of this looking weak.

Putin’s fall will lead to the rise of Ramzan Kadyrov. Putin’s an evil man, but ramzan is a worse.
