The big, legitimate fear in Europe isn't as much people freezing but instead the energy crunch killing industry. I think you'll see countries break rank before allowing that to happen. Putin is no doubt counting on it.

A lot of people act like Russia is holding no cards, their defeat is assured, and Putin will fall. That's far from the truth. You're starting to see signs Russia might try to use their new conscripts to attack from Belarus and open another front. That could make things very difficult for Ukraine. Then the fact winter is about to set in which will make fighting very difficult helps Putin as well, especially since Russia is fighting from dug in positions that require less movement.

The fighting is a long way from over without a negotiated settlement. Fortunately we are seeing signs that peace talks might be possible:

Russia has held all the cards for a while. I've been saying this from the beginning. They have been showing incredible restraint up until the West (and idiots like nsacpi) kept pushing to escalate. I appreciate you holding such a steady viewpoint. We are headed for an absolute embarrassment on the global scale we have yet to see as a nation.

And all Russia wanted was to reverse the coup that the US led in 2014 and take the Ukrainians that had their voice ripped from them illegally.

Another sign of a shift away from encouraging Ukraine and Russia to resolve it among themselves (as was the case with the failed talks in March) and more of a shift towards negotiations between Russia and the Western powers.

This path could really piss Ukraine off but they really wont have a choice if the US, France, UK, and Germany all decide on a deal.

With Zelensky trying to get us to do preemptive strikes against Russia (which is nutty) proves that Ukraine isn't interested in peace. The Western powers will have to take charge.

The West got involved because they were afraid of their cash box disappearing. However, they'll be okay with Ukraine still standing with the Donbas region going to Russia, especially if Russia threatens to cut their power.

The fighting allowed for the Russian military to be gutted. It'll take years for them to rebuild. Something that favors the West. Also something that could favor China at some point.
