Global Events & Politics Überthread

So no drinking at World Cup in Qatar. And you wonder why I'm not a fan of soccer haha

I mean one cannot account for the corruptness of FIFA. But in 4 years it's coming to America. You know there's gonna be more than enough drinking to make up for Qatar. Being hosted by USA and Mexico we're gonna drink the world dry.

Can't say I'm shocked how the lecturer doesn't want to comment on Zelensky lying about the missile hitting Poland.

Where the lie? OPEC has us by the balls as long as we need their oil. They can highly influence who wins our elections by manipulating oil supply.

unlike some around here the Chinese people know what actual oppression AND tyranny are and would love to have a normal country such as New Zealand, Australia and Canada

In Canada, of course, protesting is acceptable unless you are doing so to affect policy then it’s not acceptable.

Some of us can distinguish between a liberal democracy such as Canada and an authoritarian system such as China. Hopefully the Chinese people are able to bring about some much needed changes. Gotta love all those mask-wearing sheeple.

Do you still believe the Chinese policies on COVID are "not unreasonable?"

If not, what specifically made you change your opinion

I pointed out that due to lack of effective vaccines and vaccine hesitancy among elderly Chinese that they faced a risk of millions of deaths.

I have also advocated both for the U.S. and elsewhere finding solutions that allow policymakers to sidestep making choices between lives and livelihoods. For example, low cost interventions such as vaccines and mask-wearing. In the case of China, they have opted to go with their own vaccines, which are less effective. The other obvious thing they could work on is to work to reduce vaccine-hesitancy. All those things strike me as sensible things. As opposed to your nonsensical stream of deza regarding what should be non-controversial interventions, not to mention the hysteria about oppression AND tyranny.

There is such a thang as actual oppression AND tyranny. It exists in places such as China, Russia, North Korea and Cuba. Not in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Although the citizens of all three will from time to time speak out (as is their right) about the imperfections of their societies and governments.
