GM/Winter Meetings Thread

An AL scout told me his team would love to have Gattis. Same scout then asked if I'd ever seen anyone lose it as fast or completely as B.J.

I was going to say Jason Bay, but he didn't crash as fast (or as hard). He was also older.

He's a FA after the year and they might not be able to re-sign him.

But they also won the NL East in 2014 and are favorites for the division again in 2015, so why move a valuable piece of the rotation? Not like they can't afford to keep him or have a plethora of equitable replacements available.

Think one step ahead.

If they can get one of the Cubs IF prospects, another prospect, instead of a compensation pick if they dont keep him, i'd do it.

True. Some people are saying one of Alcantara/Russell/Baez may be included -- if that's the case then it would almost be a no brainer, provided the Nationals go out and sign a decent FA starter.

Hmmm

Source says Cubs not getting Zimmermann from Nats and haven't exchanged names, as rumored.

O's have made Jimenez available. Signed to a 4 year 50m contract last off season still have 3 years at 37.5m left. Wonder if they would go for a bad contract swap with bj. What else would we have to kick in

Baltimore trying to unload Ubaldo. I could see giving Roger a shot at "fixing" him. They're not going to be able to move him unless it's a bad contract swap. He's owed $38.75 million through 2017.

B. J. would probably fit better there than with the Cubs, not to mention there's a whole lot more upside in Jimenez than there is in Edwin Jackson AND we'd probably be able to minimize the value of whatever prospect we might have to include since the money's closer.

That's what I get for not finishing my thought while talking on the phone...sorry. Started that post before anyone mentioned it.

With Cruz a free agent and someone that could fill in for dh/lf maybe gattis and bj for jiminez. O's get a power hitting dh put a body in the of. We trim cash from the budget fill a rotation spot. Move heyward to cf justin to RF and look to fill a Lf spot rotation spot a and bench

Might be a really good fit for Pastornicky - they always seem to need MI depth.

I just saw this too. Very intriguing...

I trust McDowell to fix a pitcher 100x more than I trust anyone fixing BJ.

The Braves could either kick in ~$10M to make it even, or send a fungible guy like Pastor over to even things up.

Both teams get a rebound candidate. Jiminez could start as the 5th starter and be moved to the BP if he can't figure it out.
