GM/Winter Meetings Thread

If we were going to get Kemp in that deal, I'd rather just extent Upton. Maybe package Gattis to the Dodgers instead and see if we could get Gordon back as part of the deal.

Why anyone would want Dee Gordon just blows my mind. Yes the guy is fast but that is about it.

And why would the Dodgers do that, isn't the point of trading Kemp to thin out all 69 all star outfielders on their roster?

I'd love to get Kemp, guy when healthy can mash and would be great going forward in middle of lineup and in LF...but I just don't understand why this proposal makes sense.

Gordon is basically already the player we hope Peraza will become. Why wouldn't we want him?

That is pretty much true on offense, but not true on defense. Gordon's defense at second is lacking while Peraza is already very good defensively at second.

That said, I wouldn't mind having them both on the same team. I like having a team that can steal a lot of bases, etc.

Lester to Cubs. #Redsox informed not them.

Ridiculous money to throw at Lester but the Cubs are going to be real good real soon. They probably buy another front line starter next year too.

Good move Theo. Way to stick to your guns on not giving him a 7th year!

Seriously, Epstein's pretty good and he's sitting on a really thick wallet. Cubs are poised for noise.

Ya I guess if you have the money it's not too bad since Lester has been relatively healthy, still think the contract will be pretty bad the last year or 2 but I suppose that's what free agency is now.

About 9M/projected win for Lester. First pitcher to get the going rate for hitters this off-season.

This would make me so happy and excited. That being said, it's not going to happen. I am sure this deal doesn't have any legs to stand out anyway.

Boston about to acquire Wade Miley from the D'Backs.

That's a, uhm, nice consolation prize.

"Red Sox GM Ben Cherington wishes he was given more opportunities to negotiate with Jon Lester in the spring, writes Jason Mastrodonato of The Springfield Republican. Still, he says that he does not have any regrets about his bidding this winter."

Guess you shouldn't have made the insulting 4 year $70 million offer Benny Boy!!!
