Nice rotation. Alderson has been very deliberate filling out the lineup. Not sure why. Isn't all their dead money done?
 
Mets pitching is going to be good. The question is the lineup. A lot is riding on David Wright returning to his previous form. At age 32 and with a bit of an injury history that might not work out.

I think "true" leadoff hitters just aren't that good. The #1 goal of a leadoff hitter is to be able to get on base at a good rate. And you want that hitter to be able to have some kind of speed. Just because a guy is fast doesn't make them a good leadoff hitter despite them being a "true" leadoff hitter.

I can agree with that. I just think the game is slowly reverting back to when speed in the lineup matters. At least I hope it it is because that brand of baseball is more enjoyable to me.

I have always been a fan of these types players. Henderson, Raines, Biggio (although) he wasn't necessarily the prototypical guy, but he could swipe bases and get on base. And of course Kenny Lofton who always will be my favorite player!

I can agree with that. I just think the game is slowly reverting back to when speed in the lineup matters. At least I hope it it is because that brand of baseball is more enjoyable to me.

Yes, speed is fun. Especially guys that can get on base, like the ones you listed.

Yes, speed is fun. Especially guys that can get on base, like the ones you listed.

Sure but Gordon isn't that player. Gordons perfect spot in the lineup is 9th on an AL team. Gordon is just not a good hitter imo and should not be given the most abs on a team. His legs are an assest so when he does get on base he's as good as anybody in the game but that's only a small fraction of a hitters overall worth.

I woudldn't say the game is reverting back to where speed matters but it is going in a direction where power isn't a prominent anymore. Whether it's becaue of better PED testing (I doubt it) or just the natural swing from a hitters league to a pithers league ( much more likely) power hitters are a rare commodity these days. So teams will have to find other ways to generate offense. Speed is one of those ways but getting on base still trumps it.

All of those guys got on base at very high rates. Speed is useless if you can't get on base to use it. Jose Constanza is fast. Jordan Schafer is fast. Should one of those guys be our leadoff hitter in 2015?
