Goals for the season

Obviously for even the most optimistic fan its darn near impossible to offer any hope of making even a semi run this season. That being said a year of baseball is long and a lot can happen at least on an individual level - while its clear 2017+ is the goal of the team, there are still important developments to come. If already to many threads similar feel free to delete if redundant.

I think at this point our outfield is a wash but ideally my goal is the infield takes shape and we feel like we have the core we want moving forward.

--Freeman keep doing Freeman things

--Pereza hopefully gets the call at 2nd base and delivers when the time comes

--Simmons keep doing Simmons things, and hopefully improve offensively

--Peterson eventually our 3rd baseman?

--Bethancourt shows he can be an everyday catcher
 
1. Learn if Cody Martin is worth a damn
2. Learn if Eury Perez is worth a damn
3. Learn if Bethancourt is worth a damn
4. Learn if Terdoslavich is worth a damn

And on and on and on. The currency of a rebuilding season isn't wins, it's information. You have a great opportunity to gain some real insight into fringe players.

Well put... Feel exactly the same way which makes me really nervous to see EYjr out there.
 
1. Get Mike Minor healthy and trade him for Albert Almora.
2. Keep Trevor Cahill healthy and trade him for Jackie Bradley, Jr.
3. Re-establish Jim Johnson as a late-inning option and trade him for Mitch Nay and Jairo Labourt.
4. Get Chris Johnson to hit until someone has a 3B go down and trade him for something.

That's a start anyway.
 
The goal is developing young players and trading veterans like Grilli/Johnson for something positive. The team might suck overall but the better young players like Freeman/Andrelton/Peterson play the better we should be in 2017.
 
I will add one more long shot - Teheran for cy young. I know its pretty unlikely but would love to see him continue to take his game to even another level.

Wins shouldn't matter for a pitcher, but Julio is going to be in a lot of these games. Last season he had some awful run support. I do agree that he should be in the discussion though. I said this last season.
