Gohara Optioned to AAA

This will allow him to make a start or two over the next week and puts him in a position to be part of the rotation after the All-Star Break. Looking at our schedule, I would guess our starters will be:

7/13 Sanchez against the Diamondbacks
7/14 Newcomb against the Diamondbacks
7/15 Teheran against the Diamondbacks

All-Star Break

7/20 Sanchez against the gnats
7/21 Folty against the gnats
7/22 Newcomb against the gnats
7/23 Teheran against the Marlins
7/24 Gohara against the Marlins

Working backwards from this, it would make sense to have Gohara make starts in AAA on July 18 and July 13.

Fried is another option. Haven't heard anything on when he will come off the DL. Ditto for McCarthy.

Why do think being optioned back to AAA is a sign that he is being put into the rotation. That don't necessary foller.
 
The sooner the rotation has Folty/Newk/Soroka/Gohara in it, the better.

The Braves need to determine which of those guys are locks for the 2019 rotation so they can plan accordingly.

I would look for Newk to get his 10 day "DL" trip sometime in the not too distant future.
 
Funny when we talk about having a surplus of pitchers, but even then....look how many dang pitchers we’ve needed this year!! Who hasn’t gotten a start? Sims?

That's right. And where would we be without reclamation project Anibal Sanchez. He's been a great find. As a rough rule you need 8 starting pitchers to get through a season. And I'm not talking about the guys who make a spot start or two.
 
The big question is who will take Gohara's spot on the 25-man roster for a few days.

Could it...could it be...could it be Miguel Sokolovich. That would be soooo....I can't find the right word.

I'm honestly worried about Soroka. I'd be super careful.

JT is going to be there. Anibal you ride into the ground.

Honestly I'd look to use some of these guys as multi-inning RP. If we were going into a playoff situation I'd like to go into a game with the idea of Newk going through the order twice and then Soroka. If JT is pitching plan on having Gohara pitch 5-7.

I have confidence in the stuff of those guys. I do not have confidence in the innings and the experience to have those guys go through a lineup 3x or maybe even 2x with the season on the line.
 
Gohara starting for Gwinnett tonight and will make one more start for them during the All-Star break...he's gonna be yuge for us in the second half
