Going to Hawaii on Saturday

Flying into the Big Island and staying there for 4 days, then staying last 3 nights on O'ahu.

Does anyone that's ever been have any suggestions on what to do or where to eat? Obviously we're doing the touristy stuff like a helicopter over the volcano and going to a Luau. Any local breweries worth trying out?

Where are you staying in Honolulu? Kona has a brewery near Koko Crater but it's nothing worth making a special trip over. There's a ton of cool bars/clubs in the Downtown/Waikiki area, obviously.

I used to live on Oahu. I'll say I hated Waikiki beach. If you like crowded, coral filled sand, and pasty white Asian and White (like me) tourists, Waikiki is great.

Some of the best beaches are on the windward side, near Kailua.

Winter brings big wave surfing on the north shore. Check out Waimea Bay and others for big wave action. Doesn't hurt to ask locals where it's safe to swim/surf if you don't do it professionally. Some beaches are wicked dangerous if you don't know what you are getting into.

Oh, if you get stung by a jellyfish or "man of war", rub meat tenderizer on it and it works almost immediately, IIRC. :)

The Pali lookout on the way to the windward side offers an amazing view of the east side of the island. I used to see it weekly and always marveled at it.

Hawaii is my least favorite place I've been but have fun. I enjoyed Pearl Harbor and warm weather, but too long of travel and too overpriced.

Trying to post some pictures now, but having a little difficulty. Will try to get some up today.
