Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas elected to Cooperstown!

According to the NYT's Tyler Kepner, Maddux stated unequivocally and without hesitation that this was the best game of his career: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN199508200.shtml

Complete game, 88 pitches, 66 strikes.

****, man.

Yeah. I remember this one clearly in 97. Going back to New York after losing to them the year before.

84 pitches, 61 strikes, only 3 hits and all singles. Probably the best game I've ever seen pitched.

Yep, best pitched game I have ever seen.

Maddux dominated in a fashion that probably will never be replicated, just on top of his game, a step ahead of everyone mentally, and just toyed with hitters. There might have been more dominant performances physically but Maddux was just a thrill to watch for all those years.

16 people left Maddux off their ballot.

C-U-N-T-S.

Some of the writers believe than nobody deserves first ballot induction. Probably a few of them turned in blank ballots.

Actually kind of pleasantly surprised that Glavine's total was over 90%. Figured some of the voters might take a "make him wait" stance. Some of the results could be combination of votes against those suspected of PED use + the fact that 300 game winners as going to become as extinct as the dodo bird.

Despite the disasters in '96 & '99, do we still have *some* claim on Torre? Great Braves player and managed them during only period that they were good, during 80's.

Greg Maddux will not have logo on his Hall plaque. He's glad about it. "For me, I couldn’t pick. Both places (Chi, ATL) mean so much to me."

8 of Maddux's 10 best seasons by bWAR and fWAR as Brave. His Braves years are what cement his historical status - mistake to not have logo.

I am shocked. Absolutely shocked by this.

Greg Maddux
“My wife Kathy and I grew up in baseball in Chicago, and then we had just an amazing experience in Atlanta with the Braves. It's impossible for me to choose one of those teams for my Hall of Fame plaque, as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful. I can't think of having my Hall of Fame induction without support of both of those fan bases, so, for that reason, the cap on my Hall of Fame plaque will not feature a logo.”

This was Maddux's decision.

wtf?! Well that's just a perfect way to wind up this damnable offseason... 9 1/2 seasons in Chicago where he pitched well, but 11 in Atlanta where he became legendary and won his only championship! So before the 50 or more posts hit here defending Maddux's decision, I'll just say this is one disappointed 'fan'.

I am disappointed, but I'm glad it was Maddux's decision and not the Hall. If that's what Greg wanted, then so be it.

I was always under the impression that the Hall chose which team the player entered under. I know there had been controversies (or disagreements, as "controversy" may be too strong a choice of word) in the past, such as with Andre Dawson. Are there different calibers of HOFers that some get to choose, and others get chosen for them?

In any event, I'm severely disappointed in this news. Maddux could still acknowledge his love for the Cubs fan base while wearing a Braves cap. No sane Cubs fan would expect he should go in as a Cub.

I can't help but wonder if certain things hadn't been said about his last year with the Braves...

I think the Hall gave him the option of Chicago and Atlanta.

It was to prevent someone like Frank Thomas from picking Oakland (not that he would, but the possibility).

It is ultimately the Hall's call, but evidently they were okay with him not having a logo since his service time with the Braves and the Cubs was so close

I think you should photoshop the A off Maddux's hat in the banner.
