Grossman and analytics

I said it in another GDT but if Grossman wants to play for a WS team for 5M a year I hope AA brings him back.

It wasn't long ago that this was the Braves. An embarrassment of an analytics department and old school people running the show. All hail AA.

Thank goodness the Royals wouldn't let GMDM interview here. I think the Braves would be a constant 75-85 win team with his dinosaur ways.

Grossman is striking out almost 32% of the time with the Braves and his BABIP has jumped 50 points since he left the Tigers…in 41 PAs.

Let’s get a bit more of a sample size before we all cheer for AA to once again sign a guy they got for free at the deadline after he has a good month. Or do we want to collect a full roster of Rosario/Duvall/Grossman types?

I will say as rough as Rosario has been this year he does have a certain talent for making things happen with the bat. Stuff like his hit vs Diaz.

I’d rotate Albies and Grissom between DH and 2b but you wanna get Contreras bat in there a lot during the playoffs. Gonna be interesting going into the offseason bc Grissom is ready for the big leagues so either teach him to play LF in the offseason or trade him. This hinges on us not having him play SS.

When I think back on some of the guys the Braves have trotted out in LF over the years, I can't believe that someone as apparently athletic as Grissom can't learn to play LF while shagging flies in the OF during batting practice.

The real question is whether we will want him to be playing regularly once the league gets a book on him. Riley and Francoeur had the same initial splash. One made the adjustments necessary and the other became a heck of a color commentator. Grissom seems to have much better bat to ball skills than either so maybe he won't struggle as badly once the book is out.

It’s been a while since the Braves had a long term answer in LF. Justin Upton would have been that player but we he wasn’t here very long.

If Grissom can play a respectable LF, then I see no reason not to pursue this. With Ozuna on the books for the next two years, it would help to offset his costs by playing someone who is going to make the league minimum.
