GTD: Braves @ STL 6/29

Team Camargo is all aboard....team “get a third base bat” is hiding as usual...

Now, back to discussing who we want to win between Phillis and Natty with Jobu today...

Camargo has really impressed me this year. I figured he'd be a solid reserve but overmatched as a starter. I'm now starting to wonder if he, and not Riley, will be the answer at third (and that's no slight on Riley).

Camargo's numbers are solid in spite of having a fairly low BABIP. If his BABIP was in the neighborhood of .310, a totally sustainable number, his BA would jump about 25 points and his OPS would jump well over .800.

I could see Camargo becoming a.280 hitter who puts up an OBP of .380-.400, slugs .450+, and hits 20 HRs. All while putting up excellent third base defense. That would be a heck of a player.

Holy hell. .280 with an OBP of .380-.400 is a legit star. I’d be REALLY surprised if he’s even close to that. I’d guess .265-.270 with an OBP between .340-.360. That’s really good but not star-like.

That’s.... very optimistic.

The D and ability to play anywhere on the IF and not hurt you much is huge though. He’s gonna value pretty high this season I think once all said and done

I still think 3B is the only non-1B spot he can play well, and I think he’d see his overall value dragged down a lot if you tried to start him at SS over a full season; but the versatility is great for roster and in-game flexibility. Nonetheless, I really think his bat is a strength that’s starting to far outweigh his defensive versatility, in terms of value, thanks to the big uptick in obp this year and iso last year. His offensive improvements are certainly what have punched my steerage-class tickets on the SS Camargue.

We'd be really happy with 270/350. Especially with a bit of power added in.

It's optimistic but also what he'd be almost on pace for with a normal BABIP.

The real question is whether his current BB numbers are legit or a fluke. If they're legit, he's gonna be awesome.

He’d be silly good at 2b, and fine at SS temporarily. He had some of the best D in our minor league system for a few years

I've been down on Camargo since the beginning, but am more than happy to be proven wrong! Kid's been playing great, and is making it much less likely that we trade for a 3B at the deadline
