40,000 people died from gun shot wounds in the US last year, & we have
another mass shooting in Gilroy that's getting lots of media attention. Why
aren't reporters asking @senatemajldr
why he isn't allowing the background check bill the
House passed this year on the Senate floor?

To read our (R) friends all that is getting done in the House is investigating Trump

There you go sturg --- there is a policy you can hop on and wont cost you any of your precious

One thing I don't understand is the dogmatic belief that background checks or waiting periods would have a significant impact on the number of shooting deaths or the number of mass shootings. The evidence I've seen supporting it isn't very strong. Extreme measures like you've seen in the UK might have an impact, but they would never pass constitutional muster and would also cost billions to implement.

Restricting liberties isn't something to take lightly and when there's poor evidence that any good would come of the restrictions, we should be doubly wary.

We need a broader discussion on gun violence than "Mass shooting. We need gun control" and "Gun control is evil". Honestly, access to mental healthcare is a WAY bigger factor than the availability of guns.

A shooting in one of the most gun restricted states occurring in a gun free zone.

Sad that the people there dont have a right to protect themselves against the crazy

well ...

I don't see where background checks would hurt. If they make one person pause then it is effective.
I dont see where all of the stalling tactics involved in a woman exercising her constitutional right to choice have an impact.
You are pro-life ?

My desire is to see the manufacturers of weapons and ammunition
a) responsible for what happens with their product. Ala tobacco industry
b) taxed to the moon

I have voiced these opinions on this and its predecessor forum for over a decade

To your point of mental health -- any and all mental health initiatives gets killed by the NRA funded (R) Congress. For reasons I have never understood
I would think safe shooting would be good for business
Unless of course your business is AR-15's and its apparatus

Two Chicago moms who had fought for years to curb gun violence were killed in a drive-by shooting as they protested “at their usual spot,” according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Chantell Grant, 26, and Andrea Stoudemire, 36, volunteers at the nonprofit Mothers Against Senseless Killings, or MASK, were gunned down Friday on a corner near the south Chicago neighborhood of Auburn Gresham as they promoted efforts to end gun violence. The killer, riding in an SUV, escaped.

Members of the anti-violence group have been occupying the corner where Grant and Stoudemire were shot since its founding in 2015. Parents bring their children to the spot and have cookouts, learn to dance and play games.

It’s sad. Hopefully one day they’ll be true black leaders that go in the inner cities and truly work on and fix the real issues that plague the people there instead of being silent about it.

or "hopefully" one day the word "shooting" is a memory

how many drive by "shootings" in London last night ?
