Hand on the move... to Cleveland

Appears the Indians have come to a deal to acquire Brad Hand of the Padres. No word on the return yet.

I saw that the Padres wanted Rafael Devers for Brad Hand at one point. I think they simply wanted a youngster that was ready to play in the major leagues.

Wow, giving up consensus top 10 prospect for relievers is a terrible idea. Especially with quality options like Familia, Rodney, Soria, and others still available. Grade F for the Indians.

Wow, the Indians needed RP help, but that is a huge price to pay. Hand is good, but he's not Andrew Miller.

I usually prefer these deals for the team receiving the prospects. But Cimber has been lights out and has 5 more years of team control after this one. I like this one for the Indians. It is very close to an even swap, ie no contender's premium.

Unless other teams didn't value him highly, then it still was a terrible trade from a value standpoint.

he's only a "consensus top 10 prospect" because he's classified as a catcher. most people don't think he's capable of catching. that would ding his prospect value tremendously.

This is precisely the type of move I want AA to avoid at all costs. BP arms are simply too volatile to invest this heavily into them.

The Padres turned a waiver claim into one of the best position prospects in the game. Well done on their part.

Doesn't matter, his value is what it is. If Mejia was available, they could have gotten quite a bit more.

Likely takes care of their interest in Mychal Givens.

Wonder if AA night try to play for Britton AND Givens since the Orioles appear to look like they're interested in quantity over quality. Givens' peripherals are still strong, and he's under control through 2021.

Who is "most people." Certainly not the people who are putting together these prospect lists. If other GMs, don't value him highly, maybe that changes things. There isn't really any indication that's the case though.

I don't know about baseball analysts, but it seems like a lot of Indians' fans do not believe he can be a big league catcher. Reading some of their boards and they are really really really happy with the deal. They also believe he has an attitude problem as he had been reluctant to play outfield for them.
