Harold Baines to the HoF

I disagree. Glavine had the counting stats and the dominance (2 Cy Youngs, 140 wins, 2.96 ERA from 91-98) that make him a clear cut above the other guys. He didn't age as well as Moose, Smoltzie, or Schilling, but health is perhaps the most valuable tool you can have and he simply didn't get injured and provided average or better production basically every year from 89-07.

Yeah. During that span the Braves had the 2nd best offense in the NL and the best defense in baseball. That's going to account for a lot of wins and help the era. Glavine is a HOFer but some of the those stats he certainly benefited from the team that was around him.

Well, relatively few of them spend their careers in backwaters with no surrounding talent.

And few have the talent that Glavine did in his prime. That said it's 2018 and we should all know that wins for pitchers are pointless and that ERA can certainly be influenced by the defense behind you. Glavine did not deserve the 98 Cy Young and got it based on the fact he was only pitcher with 20 wins and had a pretty era.

The Harold Baines All-Star Team. Those rough contemporaries who have a similar JAWS ranking as Baines (73rd) at their positions.

P Dave Stieb
C Mike Stanley
1B Andres Galarraga
2B Brett Boone
SS Roy Smalley
3B Melvin Mora
LF Carlos Lee
CF Lance Johnson
RF Baines

In other words, the Hall of Pretty Good.

Bret Boone sucked though

Sure. But he was pretty dominant during that time as well and to act like he wasn't is silly. Wins certainly aren't a great stat for judging a pitcher, but they do help paint a picture on a larger scale. A 2.95 ERA over 8 seasons at the height of the steroid era is damn impressive and helped account for the majority of those wins.

I fail to see how me saying he is a HOFer is discounting how good he was. But pointing to wins is pretty dumb.

And right on cue, Curt strikes again. Agree or disagree with his position, stuff like this hurts his HOF chances.

what did the tax stealing blowhard say this time?

Was he this dumb when he played baseball or did he plug into the fox news state media and brainwash himself after he retired cause he had nothing else to do?
