Harper or Machado?

I'd be more willing to bet that the Yankees sign Harper and trade Stanton to the Braves.

I'm not sure why folks think the Yankees can't rotate Harper, Judge and Stanton through RF/LF/DH. And it's not like Greg Bird has exactly locked down the 1B position.

You're probably right.

If the Giants decide to rebuild, Belt might be available for LF. The M's might decide to blow things up and make Haniger available. Maybe Soler is finally coming around and KC decides to flip him.

There aren't many obvious options at the moment, but hopefully some reveal themselves because the Braves have a huge need and resources to spend.

The Brandon Belt era is going to be amazing. Geezaree.

Belt is a very good hitter and would likely post an OPS close to .900 if he played somewhere other than SF.

His defense would be a negative, but how negative? He has a slightly below average sprint speed, so I doubt he would be Kemp-level bad. It would likely be just good/bad enough that his .850-.900 OPS produced ~3 wins...for $17M per year.

There just aren't a lot of good options to fill LF that are obvious right now.

I follow what you're saying. He gets on base and he has modest power. I think he's a little too expensive and his contract runs too long, but he solid. Not gonna make a thrill run down your leg, but reality is sort of sad some times.

Yelich would have been an awesome get. But unless our attendance goes way up then I don’t see a Harper deal unless ownership has plans to sell and sees him as a big selling feature.

Agreed. Yelich/Albies at the top of the order would have been pretty ideal.

For me we need LH power. When we trade out of Neck for Acuna and potentially Riley we get very right handed.

Pollock bats right and gets injured a ton. Maybe he gets injured less in a corner...?

I've always been interested in the Rockies McMahon as a trade target in large part b/c he can hit LH. He's struggling now.

It's a big part in my interest in Moose. Especially when he's on the market next year w/o draft pick comp. Especially if we only commit 1-2 years.

Harper would be ideal because he'd be a LH power bat in a position of need.

If you're a HUGE riley fan like thethe you probably have him penciled in at 3b, maybe LF. If we land Pollock then we are looking at our LH hitters being FF, Ender and Albies (switch hitter and historically weaker side).

So I keep coming back to Moose.

Maybe I’m too much of a pessimist but I have a hard time believing that we will sign a big name agent like Harper or Machado.

Trout pacing as GOAT. Sorry thethe.

He’ll be on that train until Trout retires with vastly superior numbers, then he’ll switch modes to what could have been rhapsodizing, never fully giving in.

They arent going for Moose. If they didnt sign him this winter, they arent trading assets for him now.

They wont get either, but probably Harper, need an outfield bat more than 3B.

They signed him to a 1-year deal with a mutual option for a 2nd. I agree with your general premise that if we passed on him I’ve that cheap, we likely just don’t want him. But we wouldn’t have to trade for him if he declines that option.

Would you trade Camargo for a partial year of him?

I would if:
1. I legitimately thought we could be a playoff team this year
2. I was planning to exercise that second year option if he plays well and a longer deal works out
3. If I thought Riley was at least another year away and/or I was thinking of using Riley in a corner OF spot.

I wouldn't trade more than Comargo and Wisler if those were all met.
