Harry Christopher Caray,III

Huh. I didn’t know all that. My respect for him has gone up a lot.

Only thing I could find

But I do remember back then it got a lot more press coverage and criticism from other outlets. And there was an article done on Miller and the fact he went up and met Wilson before the game to ask him. Since he is from California he said he's always respected/enjoyed Hispanic culture and that's part of the reason he goes out of his way to pronounce their names so specific so if their family at home were watching they'd hear their names be said correctly instead of "Americanized".

Also did the same thing with Fooky and why he would say Roff-I-ell Four-call instead of Rah-fee-ell Fur-call.

Strange.

He always made an effort to meet the latin players on the field and ask them how their names were pronounced in their home country.

For example, people were giving him a lot of flack for pronouncing Betemit as "Bet-uh-me". The Braves guys had been saying "Betta-mitt" the entire season. He told the story that he met Wilson before the game and asked him how to pronounce it. Wilson said Betta-mitt was fine because everyone else in the US kept saying it so he just gave up on correcting them. But Miller was insistent on respecting the way their names were supposed to be pronounced as if the were back home in Latin America.

Miller was perfect for a Sunday Night game. Because after a long week, it was perfect to just wind down your Sunday and relax and listen to him call a game just like Al Michaels for NFL. Even when the Braves weren't on Sundays, I would watch Sunday Night just to fall asleep listening to Miller call a game because his voice was very smooth and relaxing.

It wasn't the pronunciations, which other than Furcal I think he got better than anyone in his day. It was the hyperbolic manner in which he used them.

Lol I can use my fox sports account anywhere in country so no worries. Just doesn't work out of the country.

cool I have a Sony 900 series. Or 950, their latest.

it's 55, a nice size and my son love it, better they have at home. He tells me, this TV is big.

you want to drop by me crib where my family is, we can. It is a very nice area.

Jon Miller is a legend. He's up there with Keith Jackson in football for me.

Move Powell and Sutton to the TV side, like Indy-1 said. They are good.

I grew up listening to Skip and Pete Van Wieren on TBS. Pre-Chip TBS was amazing, so late 90s/early 2000s. I have fond memories of the Braves in those days.

Having the best franchise besides the Yankees didn't hurt.

Chip and Joe are simply nails on a chalkboard.

I used to enjoy Joe in the TBS days. I simply think Chip brings down the level of everyone around him. Same reason WGN got rid of him. And why he got kicked off the TBS MLB Playoff coverage.

I agree with this. When Joe was paired with Skip, Pete, and Don, he was good. With Chip he’s a moron, due to being paired with a moron.

Yeah it was nice hearing Jon Miller calling a game again. I loved how he pronounced "Furcal" back in the day, with heavy emphasis on the 'ur'.

I like Jon Sciambi on the ESPN side. He was apparently a Braves broadcaster a few years ago, but I never got to hear him on any of those broadcasts.

Sciambi wasn't around here long, but he was excellent.

Chip isn’t the greatest announcer to be sure. However, for the simple fact of the Caray connection with the Braves, he’ll have a job with the Braves as long as he wants it.

In fairness to Chip, this Fox national broadcast team is even more painful to listen to. Are we all just overrating the old days?

It's strange. He used to annoy the crap out of me. Until we brought in Chip and I truly learned how lucky we were.

Loved him in the booth last week.
