Hart/Coppy trades to date

Great deals:

Touki - Gosselin

Miller/Jenkins - Heyward/Walden

Gant/Whalen - Uribe/KJ

Wisler/Riley/Maybin - Kimbrel/BJ

Good deals:

Fried/Peterson/Mallex/Peterson - JUp

Banuelos - Carpenter/Shreve

Sanchez - Kubitza

Even deals:

Newcomb/Ellis - Simmons

Folty/Ruiz/Thurman - Gattis

Vizcaino - La Stella

Bad deal:

Olivera/Bird/pick - Wood/Peraza

The rest - don't really matter

Pretty much agree with all but the Kimbrel and TLS trades.

Viz for TLS is a clear win for the Braves, and they also added like $800k in international pool money. It was at least a "Good" deal.

When the Kimbrel trade was done it was a Great/Good deal when we thought the Braves were gearing up to be good by 2017. Now that the Braves are going to be terrible through the rest of BJs contract anyways, it was pointless to include him with Kimbrel to move his salary. I would have much rather seen the Braves keep BJ and trade Kimbrel for a package similar to what the BoSox gave up for him. What are they using BJs money on anyways? Swisher, Bourn, Norris, AJP and JJ? Barf....

I think it's important to consider the draft pick when looking at the Kimbrel deal, but, speaking as someone who thought it was a great move at the time, I think one has to consider it in context now.

The net result of that deal was to give a salary relief for three seasons. Those seasons are going to end up to be lost years, in all likelihood. If Riley turns into a stud or if Wisler hits the big time it might look different, but right now I think it would be fair to knock it down a notch from a no-brainer to a "wait-and-see."
Well said.

I will add though that if we are planning to spend aggressively in the international market then that has to be considered as well. Since the Braves can't operate at a loss (from my understanding), then we have to rob from the major league team to finance the minor league teams.

The draft pick is an important thing to consider in other deals too. Heyward and Upton will bring the Cards and Pads a draft pick if they sign elsewhere in addition to the season they gave them last year.

Having Miller and Fried alone is much better than those two picks, not to mention Jenkins, Smith, and the Petersons.

Again, though, that savings gave us the flexibility to pull off the Touki deal. I'll take Wisler, Riley, and Toussaint over what the Padres got from the Red Sox. And we still could use that money in 2017 on something.

This is true and represents another case where unloading BJ helps us.

I think we need to see more on Riley to say big return. Love it all so far but he's far away and some think he'll have to move to a corner. Touki was a good deal but he's more likey to flame out then be a guy

I'd rather keep bj at this point and get another player.

It's still a win. But I think it's not a no brained

Viz deal should be a win IMO. La Stella is no big thing to me. Viz is a potential impact closer plus we got slot money.

Part of the issue is that just because the Red Sox made a bad deal to get Kimbrel (and it was absolutely a bad deal) doesn't mean we could have gotten the same deal from someone else. And this FO in Boston just got there. So there's absolutely no way of knowing we could have fleeced a team in that way.

But we still fleeced the Padres all the same, so it's still a great deal. Of course Riley and Toussaint are far away and not sure things; the exact same can be said for every prospect the Red Sox gave up for him.
