I'm not sure I've ever seen more speculation printed as fact as there has been about Cuban phenom Yoan Moncada. I am at the point where I have dismissed everything I've read and am basically trusting my gut that the Atlanta Braves do, indeed, have a shot at securing him for a long-term deal.
The one aspect of this that seems to be forgotten is that the Braves spending cap, or ceiling, is a self-imposed one. It can be jacked up by any amount at any time, should Liberty be convinced of the value. With the new digs in 2017, a series of long-term deals were realized. Now, here's a kid who'll be turning 21 in 2017 and could well be the face of the franchise over time.
So, does Hart and his men believe in Moncada enough to sell the idea, and does Liberty yet believe in Hart enough to be sold.
Not saying it's likely. Just saying that it could be a real marketing card. How about a 2017 winter tour of Cuba with the prodigal (non-defector) in the lineup? How about relocating spring training in Havana now that the lease has expired at Disney?
Outside the box, ideas are everywhere.
