Here is what a last place team looks like

One interesting wrinkle is we have some AAAA type players who might actually be able to give us something at left, center, third and second. I'm thinking Jace Peterson, Terdo, Cunningham, Hunter, Kubitza, Pastornicky, Reyes, Gosselin, Almonte. Maybe one of them will give us a spark. And there is the likelihood that Peraza will come up sometime in June. He could fill in any number of places.

Lots of flexibility in those options. Really hedging your bets all over the diamond. And the best piece in the system could theoretically play at 2B/3B/CF/SS(when Tron is hurt). I like whats happening while expecting the team to not be competing for a wild card for the next year at least.

Re-read what you just wrote...

You suggested plugging in 4 (FOUR) AAAA guys into the lineup. Half the position players are essentially guys that should be the 25th man on a MLB roster.

In what world does that constitute a contender? Let's be real here...

Haha....I surrender. Should be a fun season.

With our pitching we will be in the race until September, this team has a good chance of being as good as the '14 Braves.

Braves really need to deal Kimrel Gattis and CJ at this point. Maybe even Freeman too.

Why would we deal Kimbrel and Freeman, both who will be under contract in 2017. We aren't rebuilding, just retooling by trading away two guys that will be free agents after this season and who we had no chance at re-signing. We still have a dynamic and talented young core!

Not every good player was a big time prospect and some players take a few years before they hit their stride at the major league level. For example Josh Donaldson spent 2.5 years at AAA. He broke into the majors in late 2010 and didn't have his breakout year till 2013. You never know with these players. Baseball is a game of flukes. In other words we have as much chance of making the playoffs as Chris Johnson did of hitting .320 in 2013.

I'd deal CJ and Gattis.

they wont get enough for Kimbrel, and Freeman is signed for awhile.

Who cares how long Freeman is signed for. The team is going to be crap until his gets expensive and then we will have to trade him to sign all the new stars we just traded for.

Unless you think its gonna be 4-5 years until we're good again?

We should contend for a WC spot by next year.

If we can get some overachievers from our hitters (wishful thinking i know), i think we could contend for a WC spot with our pitching if we add a veteran to fill out the rotation.

Let's not overlook Wood, Teheran and Simmons.

Heck we could maybe flip Miller for some other top flight guy out with TJ surgery.

Markakis I would hold on to however. He will help us field a palatable team in 2015.

Haha, Heyward actually fell for it too. :)

I think this is unlikely to be a last place team. I would project it as a 75-80 win team. Closer to 80 wins if the budget is around 110M and we spend the remaining funds to upgrade some weak areas. One of the reasons I have objected to the "rebuilding" project is that we have a decent core of players under contractual control to build around. We could have had a better than "palatable" team in 2015.

That "decent core of players" stunk up the place in 2014. Bringing that crew back, with or with Fredi, would have been a doomed plan. But what we've got now...yeech.
