Herschel

Walker probably has CTE but the libs here don't seem overly concerned that we have a president that is suffering from dementia.

If a drag queen is scheduled to read to kids then the school should notify the parents and offer an alternative environment for that time if any parents wish to opt their kids out of it. Sully or anyone else can argue otherwise, but it's simply activism disguised as an unnecessary distraction. We'll see how it works out for the school districts that allow it at the ballot box.

Of course an uncontroversial alternative would just be to not schedule mentally ill people to read to kids. It isn't like that's some special service the teacher can't provide.

Parents should be able to opt their children out if they wish.

But the line between "activism" and taking care of kids is not always so clear cut.

One of the benefits (and I use that word without irony) of living in Berkeley and Oakland for several years is that my children got to be friends and play on sports teams with teammates with gay parents and other types of households that don't conform to traditional American norms. Sadly some of these kids were bullied for having two moms or two dads. It would be nice if teachers and other school staff felt empowered to deal with such situations by exposing the kids in their class to material that presented such households as loving families. But it doesn't have to involve drag queens. I think the whole drag queen thing is a sideshow (now said ironically).

Some of you may be familiar with the story of the gay penguins that adopted an egg. This strikes me as an appropriate way to introduce children to homosexuality and gay households. For others it might be "activism" or "indoctrination" or "sexualization."

This is an old story (from ten years ago) about a school district cancelling a play based on the gay penguins. Should children be "exposed" to such things. I believe so. But at the same time it should be ok for a community or family to reach a different conclusion.

or the other option; it’s not the schools place nor job to introduce kids to homosexuality.

So when Johnny is bullied by his classmates for having two moms, the school should skate around that because that would involve having to discuss homosexuality and the possibility that a homosexual couple could provide a loving home for their children.

we need to bring bullying back... school fights too

So you think teaching about homosexuality in school will stop the bullies from picking on the ‘gay’ kids?

one of my kids went to a school where there were some anti-semitic incidents

the school administration handled it masterfully in my estimation...among other things they brought in a Holocaust survivor to speak at an assembly and also a WWII vet who helped liberate one of the camps...i think the kids at that school were able to learn something from those unfortunate incidents

Holocaust education did nothing to stop bullying in my adolescent life.

Parents need to teach their kids how to deal with these types of things just as they would have to deal with any challenges over the course of their adult life.

Kids should bully other kids.

Bullied kids should bunch bullies in the mouth.

Kids need to learn to deal with adversity and stand up for themselves

You're right it doesn't stop the problem. I remember from high school one student in chemistry class every day telling a Jewish student that her people killed Jesus. It happened every day for weeks. Nothing was done. If something was done anti-semitism would still exist. I'd rather live in a world where teachers and school staff are encouraged to deal with things like that.

It should make people wonder why we had less school shooters when we encouraged kids to deal with their issues on the playground as opposed to 'safe spaces' to 'talk'.

I'd rather live in a world where you explain to that child that majority of people are ignorant and as long as you focus on improving yourself everyday you will overcome.

Yes and no. You’re leaving a big variable out of that scenario

what are his policies?

He has none. Everything that comes out of his mouth, besides being bat**** crazy, and that comes out of his campaign, is nothing more than lip service for the right. His base and the GOP only care about numbers. Their sole motivation for him being elected is to attempt to control the Senate. It has nothing to do with his constituents. But I'm sure you know that and still don't care.

Having him as a Senator is like hiring me or you to be a football coach for an SEC school. Are either of us qualified for such a position? No. He has zero political experience and knows nothing of what is being said, either by him or his campaign. And to find further fault with him, his own campaign doesn't believe the rhetoric he spews. But sure, support Herschel to own the Libs.
