He's out!

And this is news? why?

Michael Sam did the same thing. Jason Collins did the same thing........................

Neither one were stars and their careers are over. Maybe Oprah would put them on her staff.

When a superstar does it, then it is news.

It's news because he's the first for an MLB-affiliated team. It's news because it may encourage others who are hiding in the closet to step forward. It's news because it may just give hope to some kid who loves baseball, is suffering through similar fear and confusion over their sexuality, and provides him or her a face to finally draw encouragement from. Being gay is a lonely, scary world until you can be open and accepted by your peers and loved ones. But you are right in that when a superstar does come out, there will be a media frenzy.

Let the free market decide.

Yeah, Sam got his pittance from his brief glory.

I am not naive to think there are more players out there and perhaps superstars, but again it is not news because they are being selfish and it is all about them. Self gloating and promoting is not the way to endear people to your cause. I am listening to Milwaukee radio and they say this is not news. If it was Braun, Gomez or LuCroy, now that is news and they make a good point.

That is what I was pointed to. As for gays being lonely, only if you allow it. Being black and gay is far worse than white and being gay, we have a different pattern of behavior in regards to that and possibly getting the treatment from his surrounding family. I have six in my family, we treat them like any other and like I said before as long as they live like other people and not trying to further their cause there is no backlish. If you want to live like a straight, act like a straight. Let me repeat myself, if you want o live like you are just like a straight, act like a straight and stop furthering because it does is anger people.

Dane you are a good dude always have been and I have not been nice to you and I owe you an apology but my beef with your life style is your forcing people to accept you when you do not need to. You don't which is why I am apologizing, you just defend and I applaud that. But when the PC crowd makes it above everything else it gets annoying. I am black and I have suffered because I don't have white skin but I accept it and just live my life not forcing the whites to accept me because they never will but they will accept me for being a good human being and doing what I can to live in this world and not forcing them. I do understand why some will never accept me, the crimes my race have and continue to do. I do not blame them. As for your life style, never had an issue with it, just don't look my way is all I ask. I do not understand your cravings but you are an individual and you have needs like anyone else so who am I to judge.

In the end, live your life and don't worry about what other people think, just don't force yourself unto others to accept you, I have being black in a white man's world.

I just don't think I can agree with this advice given that a still significant percentage of public sentiment regarding the gay community is not indifference, but outright hatred. It's not enough to just say that you shouldn't care what people think, because in a lot of ways what those people think can have a tremendous impact on one's life, be it due to prejudice holding one back from certain opportunities or simply someone not being able to put up with discrimination each day. My primary concern is with the children who are most vulnerable to this sort of thing, as they're the ones who all too often lose a reason to continue living. While you've been able to accept that there are ignorant people who won't accept you due to the color of your skin, I'd imagine there are many out there who have lost personal battles due to their experiences with racism.

Any event that lessens that chance for any person that might be going through these hard times is a good and newsworthy thing to me. Michael Sam, Jason Collins and now David Denson provide hope for these kids where there wasn't any before, just as Jackie Robinson and Kenny Washington provided the same hope for so many Americans years ago.

the more common place we can make something that draws much disdain from certain people, the better it becomes for those that are born having to deal with it. any event like this should be advertised and is newsworthy for the simple fact that others in the same spot won't be as scared to do the same. hopefully eventually it won't be newsworthy because it won't be a big deal to so many people.

It is okay to be this way, but don't force people to accept you is what I am getting at. I don't force you to accept that I am black. Heck in the 70's we have gay kids in school and we knew they were gay (my cousin being one and he is a model) and they told us they were gay, but guess what, we treated them the same. This is like in the SOUTH and we still talking about it today, 35 years later. Why make something over nothing, they are human, treat them as such but the same who supposedly been mistreated need to quit shouting to be accepted or having the Gestapo make sure others are politically correct.

Bottom line is why tell the world you are gay, so what, you are human, you are nothing special, like me, like Zeet, like Bedel, like Niners, we are all human and we are all wired differently.

It will never happen when the PC police is out there to force people to accept alternative lifestyles by shouting it when they are already accepted, it is for political gain in most cases and I told you so in other cases. We have gay couples in church, Catholic, with kids, they have not been thrown out and they are accepted, so why say anything? Are they that weak-minded to accept who they are?

outright hatred.

I've justice notice this, FROM WHOM? We see whites using outright hatred on blacks, but on gays, it would front page news. Where is the outright hatred or hate crimes you are speaking about?

There is absolutely a problem with hate crimes based on race, and there is also a problem with hate crimes based on sexual orientation. I don't think that I have to mention that a large percentage of hatred does not turn into a crime, but it's pretty evident.

As for the part about just living your life and everyone treating each other well, that's perfect for a world where everyone actually upholds the treating each other well part. Your example of something you experienced 35 years ago with some gay children is not indicative of the overall experience. There will be good and there will be bad experiences. I grew up in a town where I didn't notice much racism against the black kids I grew up with. That does not mean that we're living in a world where racism is no longer a big deal.

On the contrary... I'd wager it has become a very profitable endeavor to do so.

Michael Sam will never go away - even though he sucks. I saw a breaking news story the other day that he is walking away from Canadian football. Thanks for the update!

Bruce Jenner has completely revived his career and will probably make tons of money from doing so.

I'm sure this kid will be able to write a book when he eventually flames out.

BINGO! Sturg gets it. A popularity stunt. He is not be worth a plug nickel but he is going to get paid regardless with speechs being on Oprah and stuff like that.

A good business move though, I admit that.

I think this is exactly why MLB named Billy Bean to the post that they did. Y'all are entitled to your cynical takes, but MLB has a vested interest in ensuring that the transition to openly gay personnel happens smoothly, and this is a step in that direction.

There is no downside to any of this, unless you resent the attention the kid gets just that much.

I was hoping a baseball forum would be one place I could go without this agenda being shoved in my face. I am in the same camp with John Smoltz on this issue and I could give a damn what y'all think about that. Have a nice day. :)
