Ho-Hum

There may have been incidents that I am not aware of, since I have not really watched either of them in a couple of years but I do remember from 3 or 4 years ago (something like that) that they really seem to get along pretty well, which is kinda surprising but for some reason those two just seem to "click" personality wise. I really think it's because Colbert has the ability to make O'Reilly laugh, something not many people can do.

He kind of lets O'Reilly go restrained blowhard mode and gets his points in without poking the bear. I don't have that much of a problem with O'Reilly. He's not as smart as he thinks he is (and can be an utter boor), but he can be difficult to pigeonhole on a number of issues.

True, he's an absolute ass sometimes but he used to anyway (I haven't watched him in a couple of years to be honest) take sides that weren't hard core right wing stuff, like calling out the oil companies for the greedy self serving anti American (IMO anyway) oligopolistic (is that a word?) ways and he was pretty hard on the financial industry back during the bailout years. I've seen O'Reilly just lose his whole train of thought when he was with Colbert because he was laughing so hard. Not many people can say that, though I'm not sure how many would want to mind you.

LINK: New Report shows Obama's drone strikes kill more innocent civilians than mass shootings

President Obama is quick to scold the country for not doing something—read: pass gun control laws—every time there’s a senseless mass killing. Yet by one group’s count, the Obama administration’s drones have killed far more innocent civilians than mass shootings have.

The Obama administration last week released a report estimating that its drone strikes have killed between 64 and 116 civilians from 2009 to the end of 2015. But the Bureau of Investigative Journalism puts the total between 380 and 801.

...

In the report, the administration claims it launched 473 drone strikes, killing between 2,372 and 2,581 terrorist “combatants.” If we use the low and high limits of the administration’s numbers, that’s between a 1-to-37 and a 1-to-22 ratio of civilian-to-terrorist deaths.

If the Bureau’s estimate is correct, the ratio falls between 1-to-3 and 1-to-7 innocents to terrorists.

So how does the number of drone casualties compare to innocents killed in mass shootings on U.S. soil?

The LA Times lists the mass murders, along with the total death count—including the perpetrator if applicable—at 178 if we stop at last December 31, as the Obama drone strike study does, and 228 deaths if we include Orlando. Both fall well short of the Bureau’s estimate of innocent civilians killed by drones.

ho-hum indeed
