Hollywood/Political Sex Offense Scandals (Now Louis CK and AL-GOPSenateNom Roy Moore)

I wish they’d stop cancelling stuff. Honestly I’d prefer they just clarify expectations and deal with things going forward. Enough skeletons have been drug out of the closet and it’s difficult to determine what happened in many cases.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Also have no heroes, all heroes are humans, humans will always disappoint you.

Reality is something terrible could come out about anyone, it's just the degree of how terrible the thing is would be something else.

It may not have been illegal. I don’t think rape was involved and I know the age of consent in Georgia was 14 until some time in the 90s. I hate Moore but I was a baby during the most recent allegation. The voters will decide on their own criteria but it’s not really a criminal issue any more.

Never really was a Louis CK fan but I know he’s popular.

I was—still am, really—a big fan of Louis CK's stand-up work and his work on Louie. But I admit it's been hard to have quite the same level of appreciation/enthusiasm for the work knowing the super-creeper extra-curricular activities of the man himself—especially since he's had plenty of time to come clean, own up, or otherwise try to make amends (these rumors have circulated for years; I first read about them at least two years ago). And yet, with all the time, he's instead hidden under the "refusing to dignify rumors" canopy, while at the same time apparently constructing bits out of the rumors' substance and pretending he hadn't noticed the connection.

Of the new-to-me revelations, Dustin Hoffman is definitely one that saddens me a little bit—though I largely agree with zeets that this is the peril of (and functions as a warning against) hero-worship, generally. Amongst celebrities, though, Colbert would be an exception—I buy his genuineness and human decency to a larger extent than most within the entertainment ilk.

Definitely sucks about Hoffman. Death of a Salesman movie is such a fantastic work of art. Also damn Brett Ratner. Rush Hour 1 and 2 are two of my favorite comedies ever.

I don’t look for heroes in the entertainment industry. I haven’t since I was a kid. If they do good work, it’s still good work and I’d like to see it. If it’s crap I don’t care if they’re a saint. Personally I resent these social issues suddenly being interjected into everything and endless new allegations coming out some of them going back 40 years or possibly more.

Let’s move forward and clarify expectations for safe working environments in the future while keeping in mind due process and the rights of all parties involved. Enough with the skeletons.

I mean I can separate art from the artist to an extent.

If someone is just a plain dick or rude asshole celeb I can sort of excuse that. But rape, child molestation, or sexual assault is a very serious thing and it's harder for me to separate it. I can still respect some actors in Hollywood who I don't share their political views. Jon Voigt and Tim Allen are openly conservative but I can still enjoy their work. It's not the same thing as Cosby drugging and raping bunches of women, or Spacey committing lewd and sexual acts to underage teenagers.

It never fails. All these ignorant bible thumpers have skeletons in their closet. Wether it's pedophilia or just being gay. The only thing that surprised me is Roy Moore wasn't involved with a boy.

As for Hollywood the casting couch and sexual favors to get ahead has been known about for a long time. Much like we all know cops are criminals who largely operate outside the law, most of us just turn a blind eye to it. One day the floodgates on police corruption will open like it has for Hollywood sexual assaults and most of you will pretend like you had no idea.

still think the Moore pedophilia story should have it's own thread

I still think they should lock her up.

The depths people will go to give the 1% a tax cut, cut releif to brown people and cut child lunch programs.

All in the name of a buck.

Word is "deplorable"

Given the number of senate republicans who said Moore is unfit to serve “if the accusations are true” it’s noteworthy how little interest they have in whether accusations against Trump are true.

Apparently where Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein went wrong was not running for GOP Senate.

it's a good thing Roy Moore didn't have a private email server in the basement -- imagine the shiit he'd be in right now!!!

I know, we were all troubled by the server and the corruption that ensued.

How did this guy get this far ?
Who invited him to the party
Who's friend is he ?

Didn't there used to be a politician that ran beauty contests that was known to frequent the off limits dressing areas ?
Wonder what happened to that guy ?

oh yeah, 10-15 of you voted to give him the nuclear codes

and 10 or so more held their noses they were so troubled
................

I still don't get how this was even a question
