Home field advantage

I still say the Cubs take one of the games. While possible, a sweep isn't the easiest thing in the world.

Thats the way I see it, sweeps are not east to do. The last time the Cubs were swept was a month and half ago. And that includes a series with the then hot Dodgers where they won 1 game which was started by Travis Wood and Kershaw.

edit - If Cubs sweep Cards I say Heyward has to change his name to Heywood.

Hahaha no way the Cubs sweep Stl. Heck, if they did I'll change my name to anything you want and keep it until next season begins.

Just looked at the Cubs/Stl pitching match-ups. They aren't that bad.

Friday:

Wood vs Lynn

Saturday:

Jackson vs Kelly

Sunday:

Samardzja vs Wainwright

Not awful. Interesting that Wainwright is pitching on Sunday considering he wouldn't be able to start Game 1 of the LDS. However, if we clinch HFA prior to Sunday I bet they don't throw Wainwright.

The Cubs will take at least one of these games vs Stl. We just need to take care of business as well. If we could beat Lee tomorrow night I think we get HFA.

Kinda hope HFA is close and they are forced to throw Wainwright on Sunday, he'd be on 3-4 days rest if he's forced to pitch Sunday.

Been lurking here for awhile, thought I would finally add to the conversation....

I have been hearing that Phillies may be trying to lose these games to maintain their protected 2014 draft pick. I think Olney or one of the other ESPN talking heads have been discussing it lately. I wasn't able to watch the game last night, but did anyone notice anything out of the ordinary in terms of effort from the Phils?

Thanks for posting.

I'll be interested to see their lineups and bullpen use during the series. I can't imagine you're gonna see anything on the field that indicates tanking, but the passive way of doing it is running your second string out there.

I hope it's exactly what they're doing. I wouldn't mind Cliff Lee working on some 90mph straight as an arrow fastballs. Maybe throw 30 or so in a row. After he's down 6-0 he can go back to work.

the way their rest of the rotation has been pitching, i don't think they'd rush wainwright back out for game 1 that quickly

But wouldn't they want Waino in a potential Game 5 which is a win or go home game with their best pitcher going?

U called that one????

We don't have to win out, our magic number is 4, so we have to win 4 out of 5, assuming the Cardinals sweep. And you just can't assume the Cardinals will sweep. I'm sure they'll bench a few of their regulars to rest them before the playoffs.
