Home Run Derby Captains announced

NinersSBChamps

Voted Worst Poster
2015 (Co-Winner)
20
Troy Tulowitzki and Jose Bautista are captains.

Hopefully Gattis gets asked to go. He would put on a show.

If I were picking the teams I definitely wouldn't have Tulo in the derby. However he is on the roster regardless.

Tulo, Gattis, Stanton, and Frazier would be my picks.

Bautista, Jose Abreu, Encarnacion, and Nelson Cruz.

I DO NOT want Gattis in the HR derby, I don't care how cool it would be for about 30 minutes. Taking that many HR cuts in a row throws your swing out for the rest of the year. Yes, Gattis deserves to be in the ASG but I want him hitting HRs for us, not in some silly batting practice game.

Gotta be Puig instead of Frazier. This is about drawing eyeballs to the event. Most fans couldn't pick Frazier out of a lineup.

Gattis is such a weird player that I don't think it would phase him one bit.

What's weird about him?

Mentally his approach to the game is rather unorthodox.

He doesn't seem to get amped up, nor does he ever seem to be pissed off, or befuddled. His demeanor is almost always the same whether he hits a homerun or strikes out.

He really shows little emotion out there. I don't think the derby or him winning it and maybe hitting 50 homers in it would affect his season at all physically nor mentally.

So you're saying he acts like an experienced veteran even in only his 2nd year. Seems about right, considering his age and personal history.

I think the HR derby would mess with anybody's swing but if he gets in it I hope he wins.

Yeah, I think the derby would do little to nothing to Gattis. I know how much it affects a lot of guys, but Gattis would be fine.

One of the ESPN Sportscenter anchors was already trying to convince Tulo (during his interview) to take teammate Justin Morneau based on his Minnesota connections. Morneau is must see TV.

Gattis swings for fence every at bat it seems anyways.

Hmmmm. A lot of balls Gattis hits go over the fence, but they are often line drives. I would say he does not always swing for the fence. He just hits line drives very hard.

Seems to me like the NL has been clueless in the HR derby for a long time.

I want to see Adam Dunn in one...

Good point. Gattis has such a short compact swing. He doesn't over do it on his swing very often. He makes very solid contact quite often and it could appear that he is swinging for the fences. I think when you get down to it he doesn't exert much effort on the majority of his swings.
