How do we stop Comcast?

I've been paying for 105mbps speed for 2 years, and they never sent me a notice to upgrade the modem I was renting. So for the last 2 years I've been getting 30mbps max and 6 upload. The only reason I even bothered to look at a speed test was because lately when I've been playing Smash my brother would bring down my matches with huge lag just from looking at youtube on his phone via wifi. And I was attempting to stream my game on twitch and it ended up being really really slow at the lowest video quality.

Needless to say I was extremely pissed about this. I spent almost 2 hours with their customer service yesterday to try and figure out why my speeds were so slow. The internet chat person first said I had only the Blast 50mbps on my account, until I showed him on my statements that I'm paying for Extreme 105mbps. He then sent me up to a higher specialist, which never came after 30 minutes. I called, and spoke to 3 different people after 2 calls were dropped and the third really had no idea... he said it was slow because I abused my internet data going over 300gb (even with all the porn I may or may not download, I don't even go anywhere near 60gb a month). Finally they told me it's because I have an outdated modem... took 45 minutes to swap out the modem because their service center here is always packed and they only have like 2-3 people helping customers at the front desk. Once I got home... took almost 1.5 hours to get the modem "updated". This particular customer service rep said I didn't even had internet on my account only phone and TV, and that she had to "add on internet services" to my account... despite the fact I've had comcast internet for the last 15 years.

I didn't chew the people out on the phone (they're actually based in the Philippines now lol), it was just telling to me how awful Comcast's infrastructure is for customer service and records.

Everything about all the telecom providers I've used is terrible. They need to get competition. Incentivize new companies to enter the market. Free Google!

Zeets, how un-American of you to try and take away Comcast's right to dominate the free market.

LET THE CONSUMERS DECIDE. COMCAST NUMERO UNO.

Hard to choose when you have no options. My last apartment my only broadband choice was Cablevision, this apartment, Time Warner. Never do you have a choice between 2 cable providers. If you're lucky, you have a fiber option like Verizon Fios, then you're kind of OK cause your costs go way donw, but then they **** the **** out of their other customers to keep profits high.

Yep I am stuck with their trash internet too. Yet somehow I have Direct TV, but their internet (Century Link) doesn't have high speed where I live.

It's so difficult to create competition in markets like this though. The main reason being that you don't want 10 different companies digging up sidewalks and streets to install their own cables.

It's just a stupid situation. Sadly, one that is not easy to fix.

I do want that.

And there is a way to do it. Allow MVNOs (or whatever the landline version of that is) straight talk, Net10, Virgin Mobile, etc. don't have their own towers but they certainly effect the mobile market in the US. Not in a drastic way but they keep the cost of the service down.

Performance wise, I haven't had much of an issue with them, but the bill is ludicrous. And the lack of real competition is unhealthy.

I briefly explored getting DirectTV, but I found a lot of hidden fees that brought it pretty close to what I was already playing. If I wasn't a sports fan or I didn't like to drink in a bar, I wouldn't even have cable.

Eh, I liked when I didn't have live TV, I probably could cancel it again but the gf wants it so we keep it. With so many shows living on the web I'd rather have kick ass internet than TV but whatever, I cope.

When I signed up, even their most basic lineup with only like 40 channels (which I can more than live with) was pretty high and was only 10 dollars less in base price than the next package, which was 200 more channels.

That's because they want to rope you in and trap you.

Welp. Internet out and OnDemand out.

Told the online chat people five ****ing times it had nothing to do with my Internet router or modem, so they finally decided it was some kind of outdoor pole issue and our sending a tech tomorrow.

Then, ****nuts tried to give me an upgrade package. Get more, pay less!

While trying to troubleshoot the cable box last night they fried it. So now if they don't come on time today I have to watch the game on the little tv

Super Bowl is streaming for free over the internet. If you have an iPad and appletv you'd be able to watch it on your big TV regardless of cable or not

I'd cancel Comcast if I were you.

I don't have either.

And I have to cancel Comcast anyway when I move in a couple weeks. Never looked so forward to canceling a service.
