Hurricane Matthew

I moved from Charleston about a month ago, but my entire immediate and extended family is still there and literally none of them evacuated. My parents live Downtown and apparently most of the neighborhood is staying around too. They all rode out Hugo, so the mentality is that it couldn't possibly get any worse. Of course, most Charlestonians (including my family) did attempt to evacuate during Hurricane Floyd but it was absolutely botched - and then the hurricane didn't even cause major flooding. I think it took us 9 hours just to get to Columbia on backroads. Others had it far worse. So maybe a bit of that factoring into their decision making process, although everything appears to have gone swimmingly with the reversal of I-26. Kudos to Nimrata on that one.

Will be watching this one real close.

Agreed. Have a plan and stick with it. That's what it's there for. I was glad that she got out in front of it instead of flying by the seat of the pants, when lives might be in the balance.

Storm made landfall in the county I just moved from in April (Hilton Head, Beaufort). Some flooding and damage to houses and docks but nothing looks too severe from what I can tell from the several people I know who stayed.

City of Savannah is run by a bunch of idiots.

Curfew was instituted 10pm to 7am until Saturday.

At one of the local diners, there was nothing but guys from tree removal services, electricians, and contractors called in from out of town to help restore the city. These guys have been working non-stop all weekend and all day.

Police came in and kicked them all out since it was past 10pm. Absolute disgrace.

Exactly why I'm running for Mayor in 7 years. Our mayor has been non-existent and clueless from the onset. The city and CEMA (Chatham County's FEMA) have not been on the same page since day 1 about anything. They've contradicted each other in press conferences 10 seconds after each other.

I figured that guy would be a walking disaster. He was elected to supposedly help solve the crime problem, but he didn't seem remotely interested in reaching out to the community.

Not only that, but crime has arguably gotten worse under him than Edna, which is the platform he ran on.

You should go visit one of the closed Kroger's. Imagine the smell of a grocery store with no power for four days.

The grocery stores here have thrown out a lot of food already

The Whole Foods I went to today didn't smell bad at all.

My cousin told me one of their neighbors was crushed by a tree over the weekend out in Wilmington. Only three streets had power yesterday.
