Everyone seems to be wondering why Muslim

Then they tell you that "when you die, it all gets better"??

The problem with your approach here is that Europe post-Reformation had Christians of different stripes taking up arms against each other en masse. The Christians in the Middle East during that era were probably as safe--perhaps even safer--than the Christians in Europe. I don't see the Shiite/Sunni conflict now as being that much different than the Catholic/Protestant strife of the 1500s.
